Urgent pls - can anyone make sense of these abnormal blood test results

I do appreciate nobody is in a position to give a straight answer, but I stupidly checked my NHS app for my results and they’re abnormal and I can’t speak to a doctor until Monday. I’m going out of my mind with worry. Attached pics as I can’t copy and paste! Full blood count is main concern especially around white
blood cells.

Why did you have tests done?

LIZS · 15/04/2023 21:37

Presumably you had an infection when the bloods were taken. The others look within range.

desqel · 15/04/2023 21:38

All normal except white cells. Have you had an infection?

HollyFern1110 · 15/04/2023 21:38

You have an infection? I see nothing else to be concerned about.

SeaToSki · 15/04/2023 21:38

Have you been feeling crappy recently? Your levels are likely up because your body is fighting something, a bacteria or virus most likely. It also can occur if you just broke a bone or had a burn. You doctor will likely retest in a few weeks to check they have gone down. If they do, its just your immune system doing its job efficiently

sproutsandparsnips · 15/04/2023 21:43

Yes why were they done?
A high white cell count with high neutrophils is an indication of infection. Are you unwell?
Also can be raised in pregnancy and people taking steroids. Do either of these apply?

Stickworm · 15/04/2023 21:44

Had the tests done as I’ve been having some symptoms of endometriosis or a possible gastric disease of some sort… colonoscopy came back clear though. Thanks all for your responses I really appreciate it - I’ve developed really bad health anxiety since having children and immediately though blood cells = cancer!

I did have Covid about a month ago for the first time although I was out for 3 days and then much better afterwards. Maybe it’s that?

For the specific tests you have had done, a low Hb would be the most concerning in regards to cancer. Yours is fine 😊.

Stickworm · 15/04/2023 21:57

Thank you @HollyFern1110 💜

Either an infection or autoimmune problem (like arthritis for example) is the most likely cause.

sleepyscientist · 15/04/2023 22:33

The geek in me wants to know which trust reports platelet volume! Seriously tho don't google! A slightly raised white cell count (no differential there) shouts infection or even allergy at this time of year.

Stickworm · 15/04/2023 23:27

Sorry me again 😅 I can’t stop ruminating over the high monocytes as that looks like it could indicate my body is fighting off something more serious?

OhcantthInkofaname · 15/04/2023 23:36

A high WBC could be infection OR inflammation.

SeaToSki · 16/04/2023 00:05

Your neutrophils and monocytes are the everyday fighters of your immune system. The neutrophils are the A and E doctors (first in the action) and the monocytes are the hospital ward (lets keep fighting until its done) doctors. Both are necessary and having both elevated (rather than just one) is more reassuring of a commonal garden infection of a bacteria or virus

TheOtherHotstepper · 16/04/2023 13:46

Your FT4 is in the bottom half of the reference range, when it should really be in the top quarter, so that suggests that you might not be feeling entirely tickety boo

Stickworm · 16/04/2023 18:38

@TheOtherHotstepper sorry what is FT4 🙈 I am so useless reading blood tests it’s like a foreign language to me 🤣 I have had terrible fatigue on and off for years and have had blood tests every few months that always come back normal which is why I was quite shocked this one was abnormal.

Your thyroid function is not as good as it might be.

ODFOx · 17/04/2023 15:51

Hopefully you've been able to check in with your GP today and they will put your mind at rest OP.

Stickworm · 17/04/2023 23:00

Thanks @ODFOx - I called the doc first thing and the offered me a phone appt for Thursday 🤦‍♀️ I told the receptionist I was worried and she was lovely, then the doctor sent me a note to confirm what all the lovely folk on this thread have said. ‘Your results show a raised white cell count. This is often transient and can be a sign of recent infection/inflammation. I think it would be advisable to repeat the blood test after 1 week to ensure things are normalising.’

Will see what they’re like next week but in the meantime I’m just going to put it to the back of my mind.
