I am just interested to know if anybody has successfully lowered their blood pressure by cutting out alcohol and losing weight.

Hi I would say I need to lose 4stone 😱 also early 50 s. Stood on the scales for the first time in years and OMG . So todays shopping was more healthy stuff .
Im being realistic and am hoping to do 2 lb a week so I stay motivated 🤞.
I know I'm on a long journey but I've taken the first step .

Absolutely, making the decision and taking the first steps are just the start.

Forgot to say I'm 53.

That is very motivational. Well done.

It's definitely possible to have an impact with lifestyle changes. My husband took 20 point off both his numbers during dry January!

Sometimes it's genetic though so see how you get on but don't rule out meds. When I was put on ramipril for blood pressure I was 55kg and teetotal yet my numbers were 200 odd over 136 (I do get white coat syndrome though! Always higher in the surgery!)

If yours is up near there you are probably looking at medication, for your own good. Both my parents have been on it for 20+ years and thankfully no side effects for them (or me, 2y in)

All the best

Hi op , not sure how your getting on but I started on meditation and my blood pressure is now normal . Luckily no side effect . I've also lost a stone 😀.
Hopefully if I keep chipping away at the weight I can maybe come of the medication. Think it's by a big wake up call for me .
