Hi !

I'm extremely short sighted -5.75 and -6.50 in other eye but also long sighted as I'm now 56. I wear dailies contact lenses and cheap reading glasses on top. Looking for advice please - I want laser surgery but been told on a phone conversation as I'm over 55 years I need lens replacement surgery. This is more expensive and more invasive than normal laser eye surgery.

Anyone had this or any advice appreciated thanks !

Both me and DH have had lens replacement. It's a doddle and life changing. We now have perfect eyesight and DH is now without glasses for the first time in his memory. I wouldn't want laser as too much can go wrong.

Oh thanks that's good to hear. Was it about £4k per eye and did you have both eyes done at the same time ? Also what was recovery time please. And do you mind going over the actual surgery? Thanks so much ! I'm looking at going to an eye clinic in Harley St. Where did you go please ?

Thanks for replying

That's a good price per eye. Eyes done six weeks apart. First eye was perfect from day one. The second was hazy for a few days and vision wasn't perfect until six weeks in. Numbing drops put in the eye and drops to enlarge the pupil. It was completely painless and took about ten minutes. You just sit in a chair like one at the dentist. I'd be happy to use a Harley Street clinic. I went to a private clinic in my area, but having worked in Harley Street I would trust that I was getting great quality treatment.

Seconding this. I "had" to have it as I was developing cataracts, but have had awful eyesight since childhood. I also have very dry eyes so could never wear contacts, and even the lightest lenses were like bottle bottoms. I considered laser, but decided too much could go wrong and bad eyesight was better than the alternatives. If I had known what the outcome would be I'd have had the lens replacement years ago! I used a provate clinic up north and mine was for multifocal lenses which cost more - £3900 per eye and this was about 18 months ago. I never knew that the world was in focus!

This is great information. Many thanks both. I'm going to go ahead with it.

Did you go ahead @faeriesandelves ? I’m considering this as a Christmas present to myself!
Would you mind sharing which company you used - seem to be several to choose from.
