Severe stomach and back pain constant

So you’d probably think why post here, I keep seeing signs NHS say avoid using a&e etc. it’s easter weekend, I’m breastfeeding and have weak immune and autistic, the thought of trip to a&e :(

since this morning 7am I have had severe pain and I can’t tell if its coming from back or stomach. It feels like both. Urine is clear and no pain on peeing, no urgency. I was fine yesterday and had many pina colada mocktails and a burger.
This morning I cannot sleep for the pain or any position is uncomfortable the only slight relief is if I stretch back fully to sit tall. I’ve drank water and doesn’t make anything worse. But the pain isn’t improving:( it feels worse than labour..

reasons for post hopefully maybe gp on the forum or someone may have had this?

Yes. I didn’t had my first flare up when baby was a few weeks old. Then it was a couple of months before it happened again. Got more and more frequent. Gp thought it was gastritis due to my age and where the pain was located but an ultrasound revealed a big gallstone.

Did you go to a&e to get ultrasound or was it gp that ordered? What was treatment :(

A&e admission for me, couldn't shift the pain. Gave in about 5am and went to the hospital, they gave me morphine

i’m still managing pain as on holiday, but if I left to Monday or Tuesday could I still go a&e if it’s been constant? As GP app would be trying to get :(

i haven’t read the full thread but just checking you know you’re extremely fertile after birth and can still get pregnant when breastfeeding and having no periods? You still ovulate. You can still get pregnant.

doyouwanticewiththat · 09/04/2023 21:49

You'd be better going to AE Monday as the junior doctors strike starts on Tuesday !

UndercoverCop · 09/04/2023 21:53

@dancingfruit gave.me.morphine workout telling me what it was (never had it before) put me back in the waiting room, called my by the wrong name, wheeled me to the x-ray and ultrasound department, told me I was getting a scan. Then did an unnecessary crest X ray. This took around 13 hours, then I saw a doctor in a room with only a plastic chair for an abdominal scan so had to do a semi plank stretched off the chair for him to examine me. Then they sent me back to US, waited another six hours. Then said I should go home with more morphine and there call me the next morning for an US, had my scan 5 days later. Booked in for pre op within 6 weeks, OP has been cancelled twice. Now I've got to have another pre op in June. They told me having a baby, having PCOS and the impact that has on the liver and having recently lost quite a lot of weight (4 stone +) are all standing factors and that the PCOS in particular isn't a factor I can change, so no low fat diet etc is going to change my outcome (tbh I'm on a pretty low fat diet these days anyway) , which is why they want to remove.

CrystalMaisie · 09/04/2023 22:02

Were the mocktails made with coconut cream? Another pointer to gallstones is so, high fat content.

JeepersCreeperrs · 09/04/2023 22:23

My GP referred me for an ultrasound. Treatment was surgery to remove the gallbladder. However pain is normally upper abdomen, not lower. So I would go to A&E if I were you for an accurate diagnosis.

Angeldelight50 · 09/04/2023 22:30

Haven’t read full thread but I started getting gallstone attacks when my DD was 4 months old. Couldn’t tell if the pain was coming from my back or stomach and was doubled over in pain for hours. Was admitted to hospital for scans and recently had gallbladder removed.

Butterfly44 · 09/04/2023 22:39

If it is gallstones- A gallstone attack typically has sharp pain near the breastbone and can radiate towards the back. For me I felt it was like something heart related. There is no getting comfortable or sleeping with this pain. It can last a few hours. And then you still feel the remnants of it. Ultrasound can detect if gallstones are present.

I think they were, as creamy on top! Had these in the past was my go to drink and usually alocholic ones but with breastfeeding opted for mocktails (had them in past too) with no issue :((

To be fair once I actually got to see a doctor he was great, but hospitals are overstretched. How is the pain now?

Yeah, been struggling to find suitable contraception :( previously been on ones in past and side effects were awful. Luckily me and partner fine if was to fall pregnant and know the risk but frustrating that contraceptions out there are:(

The pain has eased today so even more confused, though don’t want that pain again :(

@dancingfruit pleased to hear your feeling better.

I agree with contraception, I’ve not taken anything for a very long time. I hated the way that it made me feel. It was like I’d turned into a crazy lady 😂.

so we decided that if we were ever going to be blessed with babies then we would let it happen.

im 34 now so obviously there will come a point where I’ll need to re think and protect myself some way. Don’t want babies going into my 40’s.

You would think with all the modern medicine there would be something that was less hormonal 😂

Thank you so much. I’m just hoping that it never returns again. Lol. And agh tell me about it. The thought - it’s like why do they have to come with a list of massive side effects, I’m stuck as did look into it so right now it’s a gamble haha!
