Can I be around a pregnant woman if I potentially have worms?

Weird question I know!

My cousin's girlfriend is having her baby shower tomorrow and it's so important to them that I'm there. But I've just found out my 3 year old possibly has pinworms/threadworms. Which means myself, husband and 11 year old could have them too. (Drs not open until Tues)

Is it a risk to go near people especially a pregnant woman? I don't want to risk baby's health in any way. I can't seem to find enough info online.

Thanks.

For threadworms you don't need a GP - Ovex is available over the counter.

Not sure about the pregnancy thing but I don't think they're harmful - just damn annoying!

Yes worms can pass onto pregnant women. When I was pregnant they were passed onto me but they'll not cause any harm to the baby. A course of worm treatment is safe to take in pregnancy.

Just get Ovex from the pharmacy counter. Treat everyone in your house and hot wash all bedding & towels & pants.

Any pregnant woman who already has one or more young children is very likely to be exposed to threadworms (they are rife among young children) so if they were harmful, it would be obvious by now.

The female worms usually come out at night while you're sleeping and lay their eggs around your bottom (sorry). So, just have a shower when you wake up, wash well (especially your fingernails) and wear fresh clothes, and the chance of passing threadworms to your cousin will be minimal. But even if you do, don't worry, they won't harm her or her baby!
