Terrified of needles from the dentist.

So my top wisdom tooth needs removing and I knew this day would come but I always told myself that I want to be knocked out to eventually have both top teeth removed cause I know the other will need to removed in future too.
Problem is my dentist has said they don't do that. But the thing is when I was a kid over 15 years ago I had 4 teeth removed for braces. The bottom teeth was a breeze. The top two teeth has however left me traumatized. The needle in the roof of my mouth was absolute agony that I shouted at my dentist and I vowed to never do that again.
Now I'm back here again and honestly I can't stop crying. I even said to my dentist that I found giving birth far less painful.
On top of that I have an EBF 9 month old son who needs help breastfeeding to sleep each night and I don't know how awkward/uncomfortable that would be with a sore hole in my gum and I already know it does take some time to heal too.
But I want to know how painful the needle was for others recently? I mean this was 15 years ago last I had it done so maybe there's been some technical advances since.
I did have some fillings over five years ago with the needle on both upper and lower teeth and that was fine. But obviously a tooth removal is a bit different.
My appointment is on the 14th and my husband asked about some kind of sedative but said they don't have anything like that and that I'll have to ring the GP for that. So that'll be my next step.

I had two molars out the end of last year, and the dentist made it so easy. He put hard pressure on my gum with his thumb before injecting and I honestly didn't feel anything except a little nerve zing which quickly went

Ask to be referred onto a dental surgeon. I had a wisdom tooth out recently, it was a partially impacted one so not a straightforward extraction and no way I was having it done without being under heavy sedation. I did have to go on a waiting list for just over a year to get it, but it was totally worth it.

You can ask for numbing gel to be applied before they use the needle. It helps but they need to give it time to take effect first.

If you can afford to have it done privately I would highly recommend. I’ve had a lot of dental work in the last two years including a crown, extraction and braces. Honestly it’s been a ver my different experience to previous dental work. I’m not going to say I’ve enjoyed it but nothing has be painful.

my son needed a filling replaced recently and is also scared of needles and I decided to take him to the same private dentist who was amazing with him, he didn’t even notice when he had the injection this time. The dentist was very reassuring and said dentistry doesn’t have to be painful and frightening anymore. He used a numbing spray first and then relaxation and breathing techniques first and then talk him slowly through every move he was making.

Ask for the local anaesthetic gel.

You can ask for topical gel

The needle in the roof of the mouth can be sore, it's going to be the same whether you pay privately or see an oral surgeon, the same if you are sedated. Dentists are used to giving it and have lots of different techniques. The best way to make it comfortable is topical numbing before the injection

I hear you op. I have a front tooth, one next to my big front tooth, that the filling needs sorting. It feels like it's going to come away any day now, but I still remember the feeling of the needle appearing to go up my nose 😞
