got metformin from gp this may be a good starting point whilst you wait to see gynae it helps regulate hormones etc

yes I had exactly the same. PCOS, trying for 2nd baby, 5 months with no periods then a load close together. Nightmare! My GP did prescribe clomid but only for 6 months. Apparently there is a possibility that stimulating your ovaries for too long can trigger cancer. TBH it wasn't that successful as I still only ovulated 3 times during that 6 months and didn't get pregnant. I didn't have to see anyone else before the clomid was prescribed but I did have some blood tests for hormone levels, prolactin etc, which the gp took and sent off.

After trying the clomid the gp referred me to the fertility clinic which was a long wait and I was then put on a waiting list for further tests to see if my tubes were blocked. Involved dye and a scan, not surgery. They said that if they were ok I would be offered 4 chances of insemination (can't remember the proper term) which would involve injecting the sperm straight into the womb. This is supposed to help in some cases because the sperm don't have so far to swim! I wasn't looking forward to that much because you have to have regular internal scans to determine when your eggs are ripe.

Happily for me I never had to do it because I discovered I was pregnant before I got as far as the blocked tube investigation.

I have PCOS too. DD1 (2.8) was conceived naturally though I needed Clomid to 'regulate' my cycle to conceive DD2 (3 months). I had to see a consultant gynae to be prescribed Clomid, we conceived DD2 on the 3rd of a possible 6 Clomid cycles. Grin
