I am very overweight I’m my late 40’s and have been experiencing some type 2 diabetes symptoms so my GP has said he will test me for it, I can’t get an appointment for 2 weeks and I didn’t think to ask if there is anything I should do in the meantime to help, I have put on 6 stones since I had my 14 year old due to hypothyroidism, has anyone been through this and if so do you have any tips for me ti help in the weeks before u get my blood test. Thanks

Losing weight, be more active and cutting down on carbs as well as sugary foods and drinks. Have you had a blood test yet?

NewBootsAndRanty · 05/04/2023 12:15

What @LIZS said.

There's 2 types of test - a fingerprick test will give your sugar levels at that moment; a hba1c will look at your levels for the past 3 months.

Thyroid should be able to be balanced with medication then no problems.
weight - try the Fast 800 diet Michael Moseley a doctor who was diagnosed with prediabetes and invented the diet with great recipe book. Proper validated research to show it definitely can bring people back into remission and see off the diabetes. Good luck.

Loose weight, a good decent diet and go low on carbs, drink lots of water.
It's completely possible to reverse type 2, as a parent of a type one do whatever in your means possible to get it reversed it's a horrible horrible disease.

I was diagnosed type 2 in November, my glucose and hga1c were high. Since then I've gone low carb and exercised as much as I can (I'm disabled so thinks like chair yoga as well as increasing my steps) and my recent hba1c was back almost to pre-diabetic levels. Definitely worth a go!

I'm pre diabetic at a figure if 44. (48 is diabetic). I've cut carbs, only eat whole grain rice or pasta. don't eat anything with sugar at all, no cakes, no biscuits , drink a lot more water and walk at least 10,000 steps a day. If I can keep it about 44 I can live with it, just trying to avoid it going higher

Floribundaflummery unfortunately the weight u have put on before hypothyroidism diagnosis and a metabolism of zero means medication for it doesn’t make an awful lot of difference to weight, exercise is the only way I can lose way but at the moment I’m working full time I’m a physical job , doing a college course and have an autistic daughter so I’m finding it difficult to fit in actual exercise at the moment, I will need to try and make the time tho, thanks for the advice
