Hi all,

Has anyone got any positive stories of acupuncture? What was your condition? How long did it take to see improvement? Has it forever gone anyway? Did it work at all?

Thanks in advance x

I had acupuncture when suffering with Achilles tendonitis - worked amazingly well. Also helped with low mood. I would definitely have it again. Had about 6 sessions in total, started to feel better after first couple.

Been having Acu since i was a child as late dad used to have it. I have an immune boost session every 6 weeks and helps a lot, also have it for any colds or viruses, one session and they are gone. i respond well to just one session and a lovely chinese chap locally only charges £25 a session. its one alternative medecine that i have a lot of time for, not interested in homeopathy etc as think its nonsense.

This is great to hear.

My son has recently just started and has his 3rd session tomorrow. No improvement yet but I feel disheartened / impatient / wonder if it worked for others, as its our last resort to find some relief for him.
Thank you x

Did it never come back after your six sessions?

I had great success with acupuncture for a long term back injury. I injured my spine in my teens and was left with horrendous muscle tension in my back and had tried every physio exercise, stretch, deep tissue massage etc beforehand. I had more success with 3 sessions of acupuncture than I’d had in 10 years of all the other treatments.

CMOTDibbler · 04/04/2023 21:14

I've had it for nerve pain relief and for my recurrent tennis elbow. It has been amazing for me, but my superb physio combines it with a holistic approach to treatment so it is only one part- but it really does make a difference

My son is having it for his migraines. They are so severe he has vomited for 11 hours today. Im hoping someone will come on with a migraine-acupuncture success story. So glad to hear so many positives though.. hopefully we're on the right track.

My DD had quite a few sessions for migraines. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for her.

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 04/04/2023 21:31

It did help for my migraines but didn’t cure them completely. The pain eased and the frequency of them lessened. I found that acupuncture did help with combining it with exercise. I am now on beta blockers for migraine relief but the acupuncture was a real turning point in how I started to get my life back. I hope your son recovers soon Flowers

Thats all I'm hoping for is them to lessen in severity/frequency. I dont expect them to disappear but our life is literally ruined by them. Im against beta blockers due to his age and possible side effects but im really glad they've both worked for you. Xx

My 12-year-old dd had terrible PMT, period pains and then had a week of headaches and the GP was useless. So I took her see an acupuncturist who was also a friend. With just one treatment her headaches went away and all her other symptoms were halved but she refused to go back as she didn't like the needles

AnnaMagnani · 04/04/2023 21:37

I found it helped with migraines but no where near as well as effective conventional therapy and managing triggers.

However pressing on an acupuncture seed when I was stranded with no triptans was definitely loads better than not doing it at all.

The acupuncturist had previously treated her for another problem with Chinese herbs. I hadn't intended her to get acupuncture as she had a needle phobia.

But it was still well worth it. Another friend's dd had those headaches for well over a year.

I am an acupuncturist and treat a lot of migraines. I usually first see a patient during a flare up/crisis and the first effort is towards stopping pain. Once that’s happened, we need to start working on the root cause of the migraines. Quite often lifestyle changes are necessary, but in general I have very good success rates.

You haven’t mentioned your son’s age but if he is a kid it might be worth checking if his acupuncturist has extra training in pediatric acupuncture (I don’t, so I don’t treat anyone under 14).

I’m hoping to start acupuncture soon for heavy periods and period pain. Glad to know it can cut the pain in half. Not sure if it can lessen bleeding though?
