Is this rosacea?

For about the past 4-6 weeks the skin on my face has completely changed. My cheeks are red, flaky and feel like they are burning. Also I've broken out in quite a lot of spots that I haven't had since teens ( I'm 42). I've switched to Aveeno skin care range but nothing has made a difference. Is this rosacea, and if so what's the best thing I can do to try and clear it up?

I am 34 and always had rosacea, i use a lot of the rosaliac range from la roche posay. Mine was prominent on cheeks, nose and chin. I actually had laser done on my face last year, had 8 sessions in total in a year (once a month roughly) and now i do a couple of top ups sessions a year and this has gone completely….

Emzywemzy12 · 06/09/2023 22:03

Hello, sorry I know this is a really old post but can you tell me where/ what type of laser and how much you paid? I’m seriously thinking about it but trying to do my homework before committing 😀

Eloisedublin123 · 06/09/2023 23:04

Try the range from kalme for roseacre they really work for me

Hollyhocks7 · 26/11/2023 09:42

@Haveallthesongsbeenwritten what type of laser treatment did you have? And how has it helped, please

It’s called vascular laser, I had it done at a skin clinic.
i did 6 sessions, one a month and now i do 1 or 2 top ups session per year. I had rosacea all over my face but also a cluster on my nose and it has completely gone. It is painful though (the laser and each session is like 20 minutes) and your face will be red with possible swelling after each session but i am so glad i did it!

purplehue · 26/11/2023 11:28

Speak to your gp. They will prescribe a gel to calm it down.

Cut out things like spicy food and wear spf every day.

Don't use face products that contain perfume. I use simple and liz earle.

Don't have very hot baths or showers.

Hollyhocks7 · 26/11/2023 11:31

@Haveallthesongsbeenwritten thank you! that sounds really good, I'm going to look into it. I imagine it's the same type of treatment that you have for thread veins on the face?

Hollyhocks7 · 26/11/2023 11:32

@purplehue mine is triggered by heat at the moment definitely, so I'm trying to keep myself cool especially in the office

It's difficult at this time of year when offices tend to be hot and it's then cold outside.

I think so! I tried many creams over the years but truly the laser treatment has sorted my face out and i am so glad I did it.

Hollyhocks7 · 26/11/2023 11:39

Yes, and the change in temperature going from outdoors to indoors doesn't help. I find afternoons worse than mornings, I think maybe body temperature rises naturally through the day

LuckyCharmz · 26/11/2023 12:27

I got rosacea in my 40’s too, turned out to be a peri menopause symptom. Soolantra worked well for me. Stopped needing it when I started hrt.

Hollyhocks7 · 26/11/2023 14:40

This gives me hope @LuckyCharmz , I have been on HRT for a while but don't seem to absorb the transdermal ones, this makes me think it might be worth trying the oral formulation

LuckyCharmz · 26/11/2023 16:42

It seems that some people absorb the gel or spray better, some the patches (and even with the patches, everol vs estrodot!). The gel works for me (but only if I get a full dose, I have to weigh it now the new bottles seem to fairly consistently under deliver a full dose) @Hollyhocks7
i would try all the different trans dermal types before trying the oral one because of the increased risk of clots and stroke.

I started with rosacea about four years ago, I'm 65 now.
I've always had sensitive skin, and l had cystic acne as a teenager. Weirdly, it's just confined to one cheek, although l do have broken capillaries elsewhere on my face.
I use the face wash, oil and moisturiser from Natural Elements Skincare, just on the patch where l get the redness and odd breakout. That's made a huge improvement, and l can just about keep it under control using those.
You can get a sample kit to try from the website, which is what l did first.
Good luck OP!

I’ve had rosacea for years - since my 20s and am now 56.. Have been taking prescription Lymecycline for at least six years now and don’t have any problems anymore. I’ve never had any side effects from it.

Hollyhocks7 · 26/11/2023 21:23

Well yes, I've already tried patches and gel but may as well give the spray a go, I suppose, before the oral
