Foot pain after broken toe

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/03/2023 20:53

I broke my little toe last October. It's obviously a lot better but I find it still aches and I get a pain along the side of my foot. I've never broken a toe before and I was wondering if anyone knows if this is normal after nearly 6 months.

Thanks in advance

Yeah I broke my middle toe twice and a little toe once (on different occasions) and one of mine ached for about 2 years! All three breaks are now fine, no aches at all.

I'm 18m on and it still aches

I broke the bone along the outer edge of my foot once and that ached for a year. So your pain is normal I’m sure.

One thing I want to say (this is why I clicked on your post) is that feet are so overlooked and the feet and toes being strong and aligned (or not) can hugely affect your entire posture. Maybe your broken toe has made other parts of your foot overcompensate with weight bearing.

Go to a podiatrist or physio. They’re between £30-50 per hour (the NHS won’t assess you unless your leg is falling off in my experience). Just get an assessment to check everything is ok, please.

Thank you for your replies. Sorry for other people suffering but I'm glad to know it's normal.

I'll definitely look at seeing someone @Feliciacat, I am worried I did more damage than I first thought. I got out of bed in the night, accidentally kicked a Birkenstock that I hadn't put away and it couldn't move as it was up against the wardrobe so my poor little toe took the full force. I couldn't put any weight on it for weeks and I'm still wearing trainers rather than shoes or boots!

Aww I’m so sorry to hear that :( Let us know how it goes. Good luck xx

I'm afraid it's normal. I broke my arm in January - the break itself and surgery were less painful than I expected, but the recovery is slower and the arm aches. Whenever I mention this to anyone who ever broke their arm (which turns out to be loads of people) they all say "Oh yeah, my arm has never been the same, and I broke it in 1984". I really didn't know this - I thought they healed and felt as good as new Sad.

I honestly didn't realise a pinky toe break could cause this many problems! I'm presuming that's what causing the pain along the side of my foot but it seems a coincidence.

I broke my little toe last summer and while it hurt like anything at the time, I haven’t thought about it for months. So in my limited experience, not normal. But that’s a sample size of just me.

It might be worth going to a physio or a podiatrist. I had a v painful foot after a knee injury and it turned out I had been walking slightly differently which had affected my foot. You may find you changed something small after your broken toe that is continuing to make it painful.

Feliciacat · 30/03/2023 22:01

Soundslikeallama is completely right. I had a similar experience. Albeit my problems arose from being sedentary in lockdown. But I changed how I walked and it affected my whole body. By fixing my feet, I fixed the rest of my body!
