Alternatives to calamine lotion for chicken pox?

Just that really. dd has chicken pox and isn't keen on the calamine lotion, which doesn't seem to stop her spots itching. I gave her a bath with bicarbonate of soda yesterday but other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Aloe vera gel if you have a health food shop nearby. When DD had the pox, we gave her a little pot of calamine and a brush and let her dot her own spots which seemed to help.

the calamine with aqueous goes on easier and stops the skin from drying, and also piriton

we found the antihistamine liqid very good. You can get it from Boots (own brand) for about £3. Its suitable from about a year I think but then 'big kids' version (like piriton) is available from age 6. Stops the itching a bit and also keeps spots smaller I thought. You can buy antihistamine cream as well. Think I had it for insect bites on hol. Was v good.

Aveeno bath stuff. It's lovely (made from colloidal oatmeal) and really soothing.
Have you tried giving her a small paintbrush and letting her 'paint' on the calamine lotion?
