i'm 17 and have been on the combined pill for about 5-6 years now. despite the amount of time i've spent taking it, i still forget to all the time. i recently got diagnosed with adhd so that probably explains a lot of it lmao

this past week i've been incredibly busy, and have forgotten to take it for about 5 days in a row. on the fifth day, yesterday, i wiped and got the weird brown-ish colour that i've learnt warns my actual period would be starting in the next day or so. i took 2 pills that evening and didn't have any red/brown when i wiped the rest of the night, or at all today.

just now, i went to the bathroom and found bright red blood when i wiped. i don't have a clue when it started, but it must've been in the last hour or so. i remember last time this happened, i took three of my combined pills immediately after the bright red started and by the following day it had disappeared. i did the same thing today, and while i'm not sure if it will work again (last time i think i just got lucky), i wondered if anyone else had experienced a similar thing? getting bright red, fresh blood and then being able to stop it in the following day or two using birth control? (im guessing it's probably not advised to do what i did, but desperate times call for... impulsive measures?)

You've been on the combined pill since you were 11... 🤨

Stop messing with prescription medication and take it as prescribed.

Definitely don't guess this stuff in the future. And set a reminder alarm on your phone to take your pill at the same time everyday

Is your age a typo?
You’ve been using oral contraceptives since you were 11??

yes. since i was 11. my periods started when i was 10 and i was in horrific pain. we argued for a year before they let me trial it, and it worked. i dont really understand the implied suspicion.

the advice for forgetting to take a pill supplied by the nhs, as well as in the leaflet for my specific medication, is to take 2 at once. the reason i took 3 is that i knew it worked before, and i was panicked. i know i shouldn't have, and i acknowledged that in my post.

not a typo! the reason i was prescribed it had nothing to do with protecting against pregnancy! i understand that it sounds rather shocking, i get similar reactions all the time lmao. i've had regular checkups every three months since it was first prescribed.

Maybe set a reminder alarm on your phone, or Alexa or something, or keep them by your toothbrush/on your bedside table, so you don’t keep forgetting.

Taking additional tablets (or taking packs back to back) never stopped my period but maybe you’ll get lucky.
