Dislocated knee which popped back in...

My dog just accidentally body slammed into me from the side at full pelt she's clumsy like her owner.

I felt my knee disclocate (and embarrassingly yowled like an animal) but as I hit the ground it popped back in again.

Obviously it's painful and swollen and I can't put much weight on it. The rest of the day is now looking like lying on the sofa with ibuprofen and frozen peas.

I'm assuming I don't need to go to minor injuries if it's popped back in if it's own accord?

Has anyone done this (like a partial dislocation, not full) and how long was it before you could hobble around a decent amount as I commute to London which involves a fair amount of walking?

it may have stretched the tendon and ligaments rather than fully dislocated but I’d still get it checked out because you could have caused some damage to the tendon and they’ll give you a nice knee strap/brace. (Look up the Ottawa knee rule and see if you fit the criteria for an X-ray which may guide you either way) hurty knees can take between a few days and 8 weeks to heal depending on what’s occurred I’m afraid

Okay. Thanks!

Do you think I need to go today or can it wait a day or so?

I meet a couple of the criteria - isolated Patella tenderness and I don't think I could bear weight (it feels like it will dislocate again).

Not sure about 90 degrees - I'm too much of a chicken to try Blush

it’s fine to wait 24hrs rest ice and elevation should help with the swelling. If going minor injuries usually early mornings are a quicker but check X-ray times

I've done that to the same knee 6 times in the past. It's horrible and painful but as a one off I'd be inclined to rest and ice it and see how it feels tomorrow

Fab, I will do that then. If it feels more than something that's just going to be sore for a few days I'll go to minor injuries first thing.

Thanks so much for your help!

(I'm feeling a little sorry for myself as I had a tyre blow out at 3am on Sat morning on an A road driving alone so it's been quite the week already!)

Ouch!

Playing sports?

At least that is more understandable than being body slammed by your own dog Blush

You might want to get one of those knee support things. I've done that too and it's bloody painful and takes a while to heal.

This happened to me at 20 years old at the gym. Popped out for 2 seconds. Mot painful thing ever. Went straight back in. Checked at GP few days later. Said just to rest.

18 years later an dot still gives me trouble :(

I dislocated mine when I was a teenager. It went back instantly. However, was hardly able to walk a day or so after due to inflammation. Physio and certain exercises helped. Fifteen years after with no problems, same knee dislocated just by sitting down on the floor. Physio needed again. Was told that certain muscles needed strengthening to keep it from happening again. I would either go to GP/ Minor injuries so that you can referred to a Physio. Alternatively, go to a recommended sports physiotherapist.

Ha no! I'm not the sporty kind. Once was dancing, once going down a water slide, once walked into the arm of the sofa, once a child at my job rammed one of those big red and yellow cars into the back of my legs, and twice walking down the stairs 🤦‍♀️

Done mine three times, the last time was 24 years ago. Each time needed a special knee brace for a while & physio exercises. Gives me loads of gyp now I’m in my fifties and arthritis has set in. Thought I was invincible in my twenties (hollow laugh)

This happened to me and ended up in a plaster cast for 4 weeks!
