i’ve been suffering with pain on and off for years, but tuesday i had the pain under my right rib cage, lower stomach and back, absolute agony for 10 hours, went to gp got sickness meds and had bloods and was told i would hear back by end of week. i’ve been tender and sore under my ribs and lower stomach since, once again i’ve woken up in agony it’s been 4 hours and again pain killers won’t touch it, i can’t take this anymore, i’m sick of the pain and sick and now it’s hurting my chest, i’m waiting on a call back from 111 i just don’t know what to do or what to expect

Good to hear you've had the operation. Hope all went well and that you have a speedy and full recovery. Lots of peppermint/ spearmint tea to help deflate the gas. Pain relief and small bland portions of food initially and prunes to gently encourage your digestive system to start working again. Hope you start feeling much better soon x

home from surgery, shoulder pain isn’t great, my stomach is also very painful hopefully a speedy recovery thanks for everyone’s help

Shoulder pain is gas from where they inflated you. Plenty of peppermint and be as mobile as you can to help that disperse.

The stomach pain, I found for the first few days it was more comfortable to press a small cushion or just my arms across my stomach when sitting down or standing up. Helped to feel like the painful bits were more supported.

It will improve quickly over the next few days.

My mum had an emergency gallbladder removal a couple of months ago. They gave her morphine for the pain when she turned up in A&E, then after the op she didn't need so much as a paracetamol. Home the day after. She's 76.

hey everyone, was hoping for some advice, told i could take my dressings of after day 2, not sure wether it’s blue or inside stitches, but i was told not to shower for 7 days, did anyone go against this? i’m feeling yucky, all i want is a shower, what instructions did you follow and did you leave dressings off

Not a medical professional, just wanted to get the disclaimer in there because the medical professionals have said no shower for 7 days but.......

I showered. I just used cling film and medical tape to fashion coverings for the wounds so they wouldn't get wet.

I think the concern is that healing means forming scabs while new skin forms helping to prevent infection. If they get saturated then the scabs could come off and you could get an infection.

Had mine out two weeks ago. There were sticky dressings on (like square white plasters) and underneath there were steri strips (and sutures underneath those too!). I showered on the third day (after removing the plasters) and just patted the steri strips dry. They eventually fell off on their own a couple of days ago. Had no issues with the wounds at all.

I showered the day after I got home so 2 days post op. The dressings came off and never went back on after that but I was really careful to not do anything too strenuous to split them open and patted dry rather than rub. My top surgical wound (the one where your bra sits) had a visible blue thread so a few weeks post op I removed the stitch. Probably not advisable but I couldn’t live with a protruding internal stitch for the rest of my life. Just do what you feel comfortable doing.

FarmersWife2019 · 03/04/2023 19:30

Scabs shouldn’t need to form on a surgical wound as it’s closes by primary healing rather than secondary. The two sides knit back together in a line and are held in place with some surgical skin glue (as in my case) or steri strips. If you have glue don’t peel it off as it protects the surgical sites from the water.

Spidey66 · 04/04/2023 11:34

Hopefully by now the wounds would be on their way to healing and you should be feeling more comfortable.

I was warned about the shoulder pain but didn't have it, as a pp mentioned its a sideffect of the gas they put in to make it easier to see and should disperse pretty quickly.

hi everyone. I’ve fully recovered from my surgery but i have a question that hopefully you guys can answer. Near the top incision scar is quite tight and sore, it has been for a while but is noticeably worse lately, if i bend, cough, carry or move wrong etc it feels really tight and painful. Anyone else feel this at all? is it normal?

Could there be a dissolving stitch still in there? See GP to get it checked out.

unicornwonders · 09/07/2023 19:50

@Roselilly36 the scar feels pretty smooth so i don’t think so, will try get an appointment tomorrow
