Low blood sugar symptoms but not diabetic

Any insights welcome please. For the past few months I've been having regular incidences of what I think is low blood sugar - feeling weak and shaky, feel better after eating or drinking something. I had some bloods done at Christmas which showed mild anaemia but that's it. I wasn't tested for diabetes but don't think I'd be getting low blood sugar symptoms with that anyway as would be high? Anyone got any ideas, GP appointments are like gold dust around here so would like to go in with some ideas!

Hi @BaffledOnceAgain , I just looked back at this post and saw that you'd mentioned about a high heart rate too. Is this all the time? The thing with low blood sugar is that it signals to your body to release adrenaline to get the blood sugar back up again. This also affects your heart so if it's happening quite a lot you will have a higher rate rate, and possibly times of high blood pressure.

Do you have these moments after you've had a higher carb meal? If you're eating a typical breakfast of, say, cereal or toast, with some fruit juice this will be pretty carby and so you might start getting the shakes/feeling weak at around 11/11.30am.

If your lunch is something like a sandwich with crisps and some chocolate - as an example - then you might have the same experience at around 3/3.30pm.

High carb food means your pancreas is producing a lot of insulin to sweep the glucose out of your blood stream, and this is what makes you feel weak/shaky.

Meals that are based around protein and fat are much less likely to have this effect on you. So for breakfast, try eating something like a couple of boiled eggs, or some full fat Greek yoghurt with nuts/seeds. For lunch, have a protein-based salad, e.g. tuna mayo with a green or mixed salad, with an oily dressing (avoid ones full of sugar!)

Why not try eating like this for a few days and see if it helps?

Thank you. I hadn't really noticed a pattern like that - I was thinking it was just before a meal rather than being as a result of the previous meal if you see what I mean!

Will keep a closer eye on it and try reduce my carbs and see if that helps at all
