Hi all,
Last night was laid in bed still on my right side, I don’t think I was falling asleep as I was very alert and I got quite a forceful head rush sensation followed by the feeling I was moving up and down and things were spinning. I sat up quickly in a panic and had to wait for it to pass, it lasted probably 30 seconds or so. My heart started thudding and racing but I was panicked. Blood pressure normal. I have had it once or twice before but not as severe. I have been diagnosed with anxiety and am on medication. I have Graves Disease also but levels are in range, have had 24hr ecg all normal and recent blood tests normal.

Anyone had anything similar? I am not expecting diagnosis but just to see if others have had the same it was a horrible feeling!!

Thanks xx

Could it have been a myclonic jerk or brain zap? I've had both.

I have no idea! Possibly, does it sound the same as what you experience? Quite scary isn’t it, I really came out of the blue

It sounds like a brain zap to me - I have them occasionally and they are scary - google them and you'll know if it was that. Mine are caused by anxiety (in not on meds).

My husband has had this. I think it's called exploding head syndrome

Oh gosh what an awful name for something? Sounds very fatal!! 😂I am laughing a little bit because it’s just the worst name for something isn’t it? Your poor husband I can sympathise it’s a rotten sensation

Could be a type of panic attack?

Stormydanielss · 21/03/2023 21:37

Brain zaps from anxiety meds maybe. I've had them and it sounds like that.

I have this occasionally, very unpleasant sensation. It's normally just as I'm drifting off to sleep, can't remember if that's what a myclonic jerk is? Off to Google...

Thank you. Yes we thought it was a strange term 😂. He woke me up one morning to say the ambulance was coming but not to panic. He'd called 111 he was so worried and ended up having a brain scan. Stress had brought it on. Hope you get it sorted OP

I quite often hear extremely loud bangs/ noises as I try to fall asleep. Sometimes I hear someone smash into the room. It’s scary but it’s nothing. Apart from annoying
