possibly urgent question about ADHD medication

Dd18 just had a brain fart and took her ADHD medication (27mg methylphenidate) instead of her birth control pill. She already had one at 8am this morning.

I'm guessing this won't be a big deal, as this morning's dose will have worn off (hence the brain fart?!🤦), but that she might have a bad night's sleep.

Should we be more worried/try and speak to a doctor?

No, it’s not a problem except as you say that she might not sleep.

FatGirlSwim · 20/03/2023 20:52

is it a short or long acting one? Sounds like a long acting one from what you say?

derelicte · 20/03/2023 20:53

Yes it's a long acting one.

I'm sure it will
Be fine. I'd just get her to report to you any changes in heart rate. Do you have a blood pressure machine.

However I would
Worry as I'd imagine the dose tolerance is pretty high.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 20/03/2023 20:55

Wouldn't worry I meant to type

Janedoe82 · 20/03/2023 20:58

Will be fine. Have worked with kids who used to crush it and snort it 🙈

derelicte · 20/03/2023 21:00

Yes we've got a blood pressure machine. I've had a quick Google and it looks like it shouldn't be a problem. Just not sure if I should check with NHS 24... I'm guessing it'll be a long wait to get a callback, which will guarantee a bad night's sleep for me 🤣🤦

DD was on 54 mg until last month, so the dose itself is not toxic. IMO, people with ADHD are not the best at taking medication, and if I were you, I’d buy her one of those dossett boxes, people can fill up themselves!

derelicte · 20/03/2023 21:07

@Janedoe82 and @Quisquam you're both reassuring in different ways 🤣
