Duloxetine

I took my first dose of Duloxetine last night. 30 mg. I feel awful today. Heart palpitation and so very very tired.

I'm taking it for off label use for pain associated with fibromyalgia and FND symptoms.

I was taking Amitriptyline but this wasn't working as well for me and I couldn't function on a morning.

From experience, are the Duloxetine side effects likely to settle over time? I feel worse today that when I was taking Amitriptyline.

For full disclosure my GP has arranged bloods ? Lupus due to joint swelling, persistent fatigue, hair loss and recently a rash over my cheeks.

I have been beside myself with the leg pain and restless leg symptoms. The fatigue is crippling.

Thanks in advance

Sorry, can’t help with your questions, but am following as GO has mentioned putting me on this for fibro and anxiety symptoms.
Hope it helps you.

Yes, the first week on is the worst, best to keep taking them at a regular time and the side effects wear off mostly by 2 weeks.
Don't stop taking it suddenly, I've had to get an emergency supply today because I ran out in the week and have been too busy but woke up with horrendous shakes and neuropathic pain.

Thank you. I'm planning to keep going. I just feel worse today than I have in my recent flare.

I remember just zonking out constantly for the first week, my right pupil dilated differently to my left and my appetite disappeared completely, still not fully back tbh, I would sleep and then ping awake at 2am for 2-3hrs.
It should settle, but if you feel the same everyday for 2 weeks go back and see what they can do.

I hope you feel better soon.

In my case then it did improve massively after the first couple of weeks, I'm taking it for the same reasons as you and my chronic pain team put me up to 60mg twice a day last July. It's made a huge difference to my pain levels and I very hope it does the same for you too.

I was on duloxitine for a few years. The side effects, from what i can remember, went away within a fortnight and they worked for me, until they didn't.

Hi OP, I've been on this for a while now, and it took around 2 weeks for everything to settle down. It works great for me now, but you do have to persevere through those first two weeks.

Thank you all. That's very positive to hear. I'm very determined to stick with it. I've felt very sluggish today. I've just taken another doe bed (I don't think I'd cope with them in the day time)

I'm terribly frightened about a blood test for lupus but it ticks all the boxes for me.

I've been so down about all these symptoms that I'm hopeful duloxetine will also have the added bonus of improving my mood and anxiety surrounding my health.

I cant take that strength. I cant even take 20mg as it turns me into a zombie but I do recall that it did help with the fibro pain more than amytripline.

I wish it was manufactured in tablet form rather than capsules so the dose could be halved.

SchoolTripDrama · 19/03/2023 00:08

I'm on Duloxetine and it's fantastic! It works very quickly but the down side is that it also leaves your system very quickly so NEVER miss a dose whatever you do! The withdrawal is like no other thing I've ever experienced.
You may also experience a lot of sweating and issues with urinating as it's also prescribed for urinary incontinence but these side effects don't always occur. I've been on EVERY Anti depressant out there and Duloxetine is by far the very best

Hails68 · 19/03/2023 00:28

I have FND and took duloxetine for a while, as with all drugs I think you have to wait a couple of months to see if the side effects calm down and to see if it's working for you.
I have found pregabalin better for my leg pain with less side effects.

Second dose taken last night. I felt groggy this morning but not as bad as yesterday. I feel a little nauseous today and I know it can affect appetite.

Leg pain wise it's working just as well as the Amitriptyline at the moment. Hopefully it will work better as I go along.
