What has bitten my child?

Complained of something scratchy and prickly on her neck then saw bites at shower time. Pic is one day later. Never seen anything as vicious in UK from insect bite!!

What has bitten my child?

Didn't expect to see that, looks awful poor kid.
Are you sure they are bites?

spidereggs · 18/03/2023 12:50

Chicken pox?

Impetigo?

Spider?

Pharmacy either way I think.

Notaboutthebass · 18/03/2023 12:51

They don't look like bites to me, although I could be wrong. Impetigo?

TrianglePlayer · 18/03/2023 12:51

As @efeslight said! I wasn’t expecting that. That does look quite bad, either a strong reaction to something “normal” or something a bit out of the ordinary like a spider 🕷️

polopolopolopoo · 18/03/2023 13:06

I'd say not chicken pox as very localised and she felt the bites as they happened. I thought spider but thought they were still hibernating!! Have given piriton and germolene and they're almost better now thank goodness. She had some on her scalp as well. I was just curious if anyone had seen similar as I haven't and was very shocked!!

I've had bites like that from a horsefly. But it doesn't seem likely that they'd be on the go so early in the year.

Nimrode · 18/03/2023 13:47

could you take her to see the Pharmacist?

Thatdarncat4 · 18/03/2023 13:48

I had my first bite yesterday in the gym which is near a farm. It is quite mild in some parts of the country so some biting insects are out and about already! They love me too.

polopolopolopoo · 18/03/2023 14:08

@Nimrode thanks I did and was told antihistamine 👍

That looks so sore are you putting cream on it? How’s she feeling in herself

Avarua2 · 18/03/2023 14:13

That looks like impetigo (school sores) to me. Very common.

Avarua2 · 18/03/2023 14:14

Especially as it follows her shirt neckline.

AutisticLegoLover · 18/03/2023 14:16

Ouch! I'm a nurse and even I sucked in my breath at that photo. Poor child. It does look like impetigo. It seems strange for so many bites especially if on the scalp too.

polopolopolopoo · 18/03/2023 14:30

@Oxborn yes using emollients to soothe and seems to be working as swelling is much reduced now.

polopolopolopoo · 18/03/2023 14:31

Hadn't thought of impetigo. School nurse reckoned spider bites. And now, 4 days later it's much better than the photo. Could that still be impetigo??

spidereggs · 18/03/2023 21:00

We have had huge spiders which has surprised me. Waking with the mild weather I suspect.

I think if impetigo gets into a bite it could do this.

WhoWants2Know · 18/03/2023 21:36

Has your daughter ever had nits before? Some children can react badly and then make it worse with scratching.

WhatsMyFate · 18/03/2023 23:00

Did she feel the bites happen during the day? I would check bed for bed bugs. They can appear a few hours after getting bitten from what I understand.

Though if also on scalp nits is possible.

I didn't think spiders bite in the UK.
