I've felt crappy for months - tired, headaches, mouth ulcers, bad tummy - anyone know how I can get myself back on track??

Im just generally run down physically and mentally

I know its stress as I always get mouth ulcers, GP only gives me mouth wash though so no point going there!

Is there any vitamins, herbal stuff that will give me an all over boost and help me feel normal again?

Thanks x

You could ask to be tested for coeliac disease, as all the symptoms you mention are associated with CD. I thought everyone had a mouth ulcer all the time until I was diagnosed.

TrinityRhino · 12/02/2008 09:41

Metatone tonic is good stuff

iloverosycheeks · 12/02/2008 09:46

I can sympathise, just getting over a stinking cold, sore throat coupled with huge mouth ulcers and complete loss of all energy, really got me down. it definately dragged on longer than it should but I have just been doing really obvious stuff last few days ie going to bed ridiculously early taking a mult vit and drinking/eating lots of fruit and veg, and feel much better today hope you feel better soon

lucyellensmum · 12/02/2008 10:03

can i lurk here too, i have a never ending cold just lately, sooo run down its untrue. Cant sleep either so the early nights can be counter productive.

What is metatone? is if for tummy, or general well being? I really feel i need a supplement but i just go and stare at the counter in boots and come away with nothing, have multi vits, but i keep forgetting to take them

A super good diet, regular exercise (even though you won't feel like it) try echinacea for a immunity boost. If you can't place why you're feeling like this, maybe a visit to a homeopath or allergy test, good luck and hope you feel better soon

Sounds like you could be anaemic. Make an appointment for some blood tests.

whatironing · 12/02/2008 12:10

I was tired and run down for months, I just got on with things / tweaked diet etc and put it down to lack of sleep etc

Turns out I have an under active thyroid and ulcerative colitis

You might just be run down, or you might be ill - I am now a big believer in going to get a blood test!

doggiesayswoof · 12/02/2008 12:35

Here's what I [try] and do - for me it needs to be an overall approach to make any difference!

*Exercise - even better if you are out in daylight so go for a walk every day (also v good for de-stressing)
*Fruit - 3 x per day
*Veg - ditto, specially green leafy stuff
*Loads and loads of water - I aim for 2 litres a day
*Cut down on alcohol or stop altogether
*Sleep - regular bed time and getting up time if possible
*Decent multivitamin and echinacea every day

But I would see GP and say you are concerned. I'd maybe consider food allergy testing too.

Just think: spring is round the corner...

lalaa · 12/02/2008 12:48

Exercise and lots of fruit and veg. Cut down on booze if you can. Lots of water. I take 1000mg of Vit C every day and that helps a lot with warding off colds, etc.

I'd do those things first for a month before considering other options.

lalaa · 12/02/2008 12:50

Also, my GP told me that 30 mins of exercise a day has been proven to be more effective than Prozac. So your mood will be lifted too.

Disenchanted,

I suggest going back to your GP (or another if this one doesn't seem to be interested) and ask for blood tests.

One of the symptoms for underactive thyroid is mouth ulcers, and it would also account for fatigue, depression, lack of energy etc. Your GP should be testing for thyroid, as well as hormone profile, cholesterol, liver, kidney function & blood sugars.

Lifestyle / diet changes already suggested will probably make an enormous difference, but you should also try to rule out any underlying medical reason.

greyskythinker · 12/02/2008 13:15

Also vitamins as already mentioned. Apparently women in particular are usually low in magnesium, iron and B vitamins. A high strength multi-vitamin will help.

usandnosleep · 12/02/2008 13:36

I felt same for about a year after having my DS, eventually had blood tests (after a few visits to the GP) and was diagnosed with an over active thyroid. Started meds and now feel lots better

Disenchanted · 12/02/2008 19:48

Hiya

Thanks for all the suggestions, I dont drink alcohol at all so no problem there!

IBS has actully been at the back of my mind for a while.

I might make an appointment if the healthy eating, more water and some vitamins doesnt take any effect.

Thanks again x
