'not clinically trained to say"

Phoned gp surgery about some test results from about 2 weeks ago and I've been told by the admin team that handles test results that they're not clinically trained to tell me and I would need to book an appointment with a clinician /doctor.

Should I be worried? Also I called them, they haven't called me about it/ taken initiative to call...

Maybe the results aren’t written in a format they have enough medical training to decipher? I have regular bloods done but couldn’t tell if the results were ok if I looked at the numbers. Hope all is ok.

I would expect the surgery to contact you if there was an issue that needed addressing.
Mine don’t call if they are normal. I haven’t ever come across a receptionist that can give out results because they aren’t clinical.

I work in a hospital as admin. Admin staff are not allowed to give out test results over the phone. If if we read them out from the screen. It's very easy to misread/misinterprete a result. We have no clinical training so should not reading out results.

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/03/2023 18:15

I had this recently, but they just made a phone appointment for me with the doctor so she could take me through the results. Try not to worry, but this is just how they do things now.

No not at all. They just aren’t clinically trained to read medical results. Easy to misread and they couldn’t explain anything if you asked.

Nah it's their procedures.

Honestly, it probably means they’re fine. I’d maybe worry if you were already on the doctors list for a call back.

Technically they can give you the result because it forms part of your medical record, but normal policy is that it has to go through a doctor because a ‘normal’ result might be abnormal for you as an individual (and vice versa).
