Daily morning diarrhoea?

Wasn’t sure where to post this. Not a poo troll, but have name changed and am getting concerned.

As long as I can remember (but not forever)- I think since having children, I have had daily morning diarrhoea. Sometimes I have had a stabbing pain in my stomach before urgency. Other times, I have needed to get to the toilet quickly… other times, I just need to use the toilet in the morning and nothing is solid.

Drs previously wouldn’t investigate -saying: it’s 'normal' for me -( didn’t use to be, but I suppose it is now…). I have had low iron and the tablets have upset my stomach due to iron tablet side effects. The latest was that antibiotics could have caused problems.

I have just had an allergy/ food intolerance blood test (normal…).

Maybe the drs are right… I'm 44 - should I be pushing for further tests? I don’t know anymore. I didn’t want to waste anyone's time.

I'm generally fit (need to lose some weight) and I have finally raised my ferritin levels and am sleeping well.

I don’t know anymore. I feel that if I ask for tests and it's nothing, that I’ll be branded a hypochondriac.

Do you drink tea or coffee first thing. Could it be a caffeine sensitivity?

YukoandHiro · 17/03/2023 14:27

It's not normal.

Have you tried making diet changes? Is it worse (eg the stabbing pains, rushing) after particular evening meals?

Hazelnuttella · 17/03/2023 14:29

I used to have this. The Dr said because it was just once a day, it’s wasn’t an “abnormal” bowel movement pattern.

For me it was definitely stress related, I was living away from home and had a job I hated. When I moved back it stopped. Are you stressed?

I have this and GP attributes it to IBS (Google morning rush IBS), but that's after investigation to make sure my symptoms weren't anything else. I've had it for many years, and it feels normal for me.

Hopefully it's just a bit of IBS, but have you done a stool sample to check Calprotectin levels?

I would exaggerate your symptoms a bit and go back to your doctor so you can be screened to rule out coeliac, IBD etc. look up criteria for being tested on NICE guidelines so you know what to say. if that all comes back clear I would advise having a look at Megan Rossi book (her first one). Loads of useful advise which is trial and error to help sort symptoms. For me I found adding Regucol (Holland and Barrett) completely cleared up my symptoms which were similar to yours. I also have kefir daily and exercise/meditate. But-we are all different. Good luck!
