If so, can you tell me more? Why did your child have the vaccination? Where did you get it from? etc

I have had both my dcs vaccinated. We had it done in Australia a few years ago (we are living in the UK now)

I did it because i had chicken pox as an adult and it was sooo vile and i was so ill and have loads of scars.

Hi - Im in the middle of having both of my dd's done, next jab tomorrow. Big holiday at the end of the week, and i just knew one of them would get CP and spoil it, so I asked my GP and he obliged. all nhs so far...

Are you thinking about it for ds1 em?

The thing that bothers me about CP vac is whether it truly gives lifelong immunity. If it doesn't then you may risk getting it as an adult when it is much more risky. And also what about shingles - does having the vax put you at risk of shingles as a child?

Hathor · 12/02/2008 09:08

I was not vaccinated as a child. I had cp at age 6. My younger sister was vaccinated - they had just invented it - she has never had cp or shingles and is adult now. Only one case, but seemed to work for her.

Yes I was thinking about it for ds.

Am worried about possible complications with chickenpox, because he's more susceptible to illness than my dd's are.

DS2 was vaccinated at 2 because of his asthma - he was taking so many courses of steroids at the time that the paed thought it better. We were also living in Singapore where it is quite routinely given; I think the climate leads to more nasty skin infections and chest infections.

My younger two have been vaccinated. We were living in the USA at the time where it is a routine vaccination. My older three didn't have it because they had already had CP in the UK.

greyskythinker · 12/02/2008 13:22

I asked my GP for it for LOs, and she refused, saying cannot get it on NHS.

Both children got later got it, (DS only 11 weeks - truly awful) and it is dreadful seeing your gorgeous children scarred. If you can, I would recommend it.

We had american friends staying with us, and everyone is vaccinated there. They couldn't believe we weren't. When I told them about chickenpox parties they looked at me like I was insane

Yes its obligatory here Italy and done with the mmr.

I wish we had done this. We're now playing the waiting game as DD was exposed to CP last Tuesday and Wednesday at nursery and we are due to go on holiday to Canada next Friday.

The timing truly sucks. And to make matters slightly even more interesting, I am apparently not immune either although I didn't catch it from DS 3 years ago so I'm hoping I won't get it now. We had just started TTC DC3 however, so it could all get very interesting in the next few weeks.

My advice is get the jab.
