I hate my GP's surgery... long rant so feel free to ignore

Just got back home and on the walk home was fuming, and still am... just need to get this off my chest and don't want to bother dh as he's got lots of stuff going on at work...

Went past surgery to drop off repeat prescription request for dd and as I was there I very politely asked whether it would be at all possible for maybe somebody (even nurse) to have a quick look at ds (13wks) as he's been coughing, lost his appetite (he's usually the type 'give me food and give it to me NOW followed by guzzling lots), and has also hardly been keeping any food down for the last 2 days.

The receptionists there have major attitude ... almost as if they don't really want to be there iyswim. Also probably doesn't help that I a few months ago complained because they constantly kept getting the repeat prescription for dd's milk wrong. At that instance the GP actually told me off for complaining!!! and also inadvertendly admitted that mistakes happen - fair enough once or twice, but constantly? Also she said that occassionally get insuline prescriptions wrong!!! Isn't that dangerouse?

Anyhow... First off I got a rather gruff 'well you really should have called beforehand' followed by 'have you spoken to the HV'. Lemme see, if I had presented the 'case' to the HV over the phone she probably would have sent me to see the GP anyway... at least that's what I'm assuming. then I was told that the GP is fully booked and that I should come back around 1600 and 'they'll see if they can possibly do anything for me' so no guarantee ds would be seen then! Considering that the GP was soooooo very busy, I was amazed to see the waiting room completely empty!

Also around 1600 I have to head off and pick up dd from the CM. So I'm stuffed! Angry

I don't know whether I'm just overreacting as I'm so very tired and also coming down with a cold, but I just think it's outrageous.

When I previously looked around to change surgery I couldn't find any surgeries nearby that were still taking nw patients though Sad will have to try again and sweet talk them or maybe just show up with ds on the doorstep just after he's been sick??

Rant over and thanks for taking the time to read Smile

Sounds like you need to look around for a new surgery again, although TBH I think they're all like this (and doctors receptionists are always notoriously fierce!).

However, I can see their side of things as well - my sister is a GP and try as hard as she might, she will never please everybody, especially when she's only got 5 mins per patient Sad. The waiting room may well have been empty because the doctors were off doing their house calls.

IME, if you lay it on with a trowel, especially with small babies, most surgeries will squeeze you in. Hope your ds gets better soon.

MrsBigDrumsADrumming · 07/12/2004 13:34

Thanks FRN, I know that GPs don't have much time per patient, but at least the receptionists could be a bit more friendly, especially to hazzled moms. And a trowl isn't big enough. When dd was really ill last year I actually had to get histerical and get really German (I am Wink) to be seen that day. FFS she was coughing so hard she could hardly breath!

Oh and my doc doesn't really do houscalls!

Sending you hugs as you sound like you need it! Smile

Doesnt sound very professional of them to be getting prescriptions wrong! I would be Angry too! xxx

FlashingRudolphNose · 07/12/2004 13:37

Whenever I really need to see a doctor for one of the kids without an appointment, I always go and camp out in the waiting room - always works!

Agree with you re receptionists Grin.

gothicsanta · 07/12/2004 13:38

could you phone and speak to the practice manager and see if they could help

MrsBigDrumsADrumming · 07/12/2004 13:38

they weren't willing to let me camp out...

Have you considered submitting a formal complaint to the PCT? (Then quickly changing surgeries)

FlashingRudolphNose · 07/12/2004 13:44

I'd camp out anyway, seriously. Shows you're really worried. Tough if they don't like it.

MrsBigDrumsADrumming · 07/12/2004 13:47

FRN - probably should have camped out, but feeding time for ds was getting close and I needed to get home as I'd been out all morning and had already used the bottle I had on me Sad. Ah well, might have to call dh to pick up dd tonight and have a rant at the GP if we're being seen tonight... might as well make myself really unpopular before I change surgeries.

Just found a surgery that might be doing walk ins on a Friday... so might be able to get on the 'patients list' that way.
