toddler with slow weight gain - I think - can anyone reassure me?

DS is 20 months. Between 15 months, when I last weighed him, and now, he has gained only 14oz. In that time though he has grown out of a set of clothes so I know he's been getting taller and I wasn't that worried until I actually weighed him and realised he'd not put on that much.

He's not a big eater, never has been and I can't see that changing any time soon. All the other toddlers I know eat loads and are much bigger than ds.

Does this sound ok or should I get some advice from the hv? (Am not keen on approaching her for various reasons so thought I'd ask on here first!)

My DD was weighed last week after two months and had actually LOST weight (1.5oz) The health visitor wasn't at all concerned, even though I was, as I am feeding her all the right things (ie full fat milk, cheese). She does eat a lot but looks terribly skinny, but apparently I was the same as a baby (sadly not now!)

I can't remember how big my ds was, but he is, was, and I suspect always will be small. He is one of the smallest in his class (he is 8 now)

TBH, I stopped getting him weighed, as the HV was no help, and just made me more anxious. I decided that as long as he is growing and healthy, then he was fine.

My ds is also quite finiky. He has some allergies though. I have a theory that maybe he is picky BECAUSE of his allergies - ie natures way of ensuring that he sticks to "safe" foods.

I know its hard, and its a worry.

Can you go to another HV, to get reassurance?

HereComeTheGirls, it's good to hear your hv wasn't concerned, I guess 1.5oz isn't very much. I have asked my mum what I was like as a baby but all she will say is that I was hugely fussy and didn't eat anything something must have been happening as I've been overweight most of my life!

Purpleduck, it is a worry isn't it, but great to know that your ds is fine. Ds isn't fussy as such, in that he will eat most things, but just not very much of anything, and he loses interest very quickly if there is the slightest distraction at mealtimes. Funnily enough at nursery he seems to eat everything they put in front of him - have no idea what that's about.

Anyway, thank you for posting, it's really kind. I will give it another two months and see how it goes then may see the hv...
