Back Molar extraction -Terrified.

Hello everyone.

I wondered if anyone had any reassuring words.

I will try to keep it short, during lockdown I had a very bad experience with a problem tooth that required emergency root canal. Unfortunately I have extremely long roots and despite another attempt since the dentists have not been able to get to the bottom of the root. They referred me to a private specialist dentist but at a cost of £1200 including the crown I couldn’t justify it (the pain had subsided). Especially
given there was no guarantee it would work anyway. I was told it would flare up again at some point.

As of yesterday I can feel the tooth niggling and I am absolutely petrified. Im
scared of the pain I was in returning. Im
scared of any work I may have to come (this experience has been horrible for various reasons).

I think I just need to get it extracted. I am worried however of the impact of losing my back molar (I have already had wisdom teeth out many years ago). I keep reading that this will create more problems with other teeth.

Has anyone had a back molar removal and not had any problems with the rest of their teeth?

I’m also so scared the extraction will be difficult because of my long roots.

I never used to have a problem with dentistry but the past couple of years have left me terrified.

Right... listen up! I could write books on tooth problems!

IF your tooth needs removing, it will be a good thing to do , because if a tooth is damaged beyond root canal treatment or playing up or root canal will not work, the effect of this tooth remaining will affect the other teeth around it in a bad way. Leaving it will cause bone loss and you know when they take these X rays, it shows to a dentist and he will not suggest removing a tooth unless it is really necessary.

As for the procedure, anaesthetic is marvellous now and you will not feel it, and the whole procedure will take seconds. So much so, you will be saying "is it out?"

Needless to say I have had quite a few teeth out. You will be fine Smile
