My 31 months old DS has bad breath.

Is that normal ?

Teeth brushing isn't particularly effective coz he just sucks the toothpaste off and won't let me do it, wot with him being 2 and a half an'all.

I've tried brushing mine at the same time and he does copy me a bit but eventually just sucks the brush again.

Bit banal, i know.

Cheers

At 2.5 you need to be brushing his teeth. It might not be pretty and he'll put up a fight, but he has proper teeth and some of these need to last for years yet.

Have you taken him to the dentist yet? I'd take him to get the bad breath looked at (could also be caused by cold, sore throat etc), and get the dentist to explain to him that he needs to let you brush his teeth.

You only need a tiny bit of toothpaste to avoid him swallowing too much. Then if cajoling and making it a game don't work, then you need to pin him down and get in there and do it. Eventually they understand and are fine with you doing it. I don't think they're 100% capable of doing a really good job every time till they're much older. DD1 is 5 and we still do a "check" (i.e. re-brush them ).

the dentist (we have had 3) have always had a look & been very good at making sure DD was happy

I am surprised your dentist won't have a look
