last weekend dd was poorly high temp noteating etc so took her to docs monday morning when a birght red rash appeared on her wrists and knees, the doctor who looked in her mouth etc said she also had little ulcers on her tongue said it was tonsilitus and gave me antibiotics to give her. They appeared to work because by the weds morning she was bouncing off the walls - typically as i had taken a day off work to see to her that day (only work w-f)

anyway she went back to nursery and there was a sign on the door to say they had 3 confirmed cases of hand foot and mouth in her room, having read the symptoms it got me wondering whether she had had that instead on tonsilitus??????? Anyway she was better so i forgot about it, until the friday when i started developing ucers in my mouth and on my tongue - also over the weekend have got little sores on hands and feet, so it looks like i have got hand foot and mouth i think.

has anyone else (adult) had this? and how long did it last? is there any point goig to docs? all the info says it is a virus, i am using special mouthwash "corsodyl" i think and tajing paracetomol and ibuprofen for the pain, it is so painful and i have been alone at home with dd all weekend because dh has been working extra, all he says is "well go to the doctor then" which i have pointed out i couldnt do at the weekend, not sure if there is any point going as they wont give me antibiotics for a virus.

feeling so crap, would be interested to know if anyone else has had these symptoms and what their doctor said and how long it all lasted (today will be 4th day of the most painfull ulcer and it still there larger than life)

poor you - I've never heard of an adult catching it - you are very unlucky.

No advice, sorry.

It ran round our group around Christmas. Some suffered worse than others: I think the absolute worst was almost a month but most of us felt better within a week to ten days. The mouth ulcers are evil - make you feel terrible but like you say, I don't think there's much the doctor can do to get rid of them. Possibly try suckable vitamin C tablets right on the ulcer? Hope you feel better soon.

i did think there was no point going to the doctor though

You might be feeling extra rotten just cos you're a bit rundown with the lack of sleep. Any chance you can retreat to bed as soon as your daughter goes down? I found work was actually quite good for taking my mind off it - but then again, things always seem better in the day than in the evening. Best of luck with the inspection.

thanks for the kind thoughts, it actually feels a little bit better today and my husband remembers that when he had very bad ilcers before our wedding the doc recommended some cream from the chemist so i am going there today. Just wish i didn't have a job where i have to talk ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL day long! I shall try signing for my class and tell the ofsted inspectpr they are all hearing impaired
