Having problems post covid - coughing, heart palpitations etc

Now im feeling like when you go over a hill fast in a car or on a rollercoaster

It's bloody odd

Anyone had anything similar?

Perhaps it is vertigo?

gamerchick · 06/03/2023 11:29

Sounds like vertigo. I'd probably see the GP in case it's a middle ear infection though.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/03/2023 11:42

It does sound like vertigo, I get it sometimes as part of my hay fever. I find it helps to be very well hydrated as that stops the inner ear getting 'sticky'. At the first feeling of balance problems I increase my water intake as much as I can for a couple of days and that usually stops it worsening. However there are a lot of causes of vertigo and it might be that hydrating won't make any difference for you.

I have that sensation just before I have a hot flush due to menopause. It's not a bad sensation in itself but when it's happening very often throughout the day it's bloody awful and I really sympathise with you x

KatyMac · 06/03/2023 11:57

Oh sorry! im feeling in my chest/diaphragm

Menopause is a possibility; I wondered if it was a side effect of phocodiene

Almost like my body is panicking even if my mind is calm

I get that a lot. Its missed heartbeats or ectopic beats.

Ive had it for years, always before my period. And now I'm on HRT I get it even more.

I've had ecgs etc and I'm fine. Its obviously just my body's quirk.

But maybe you should have it checked by GP?

Em308 · 06/03/2023 12:40

I have the same thing, it’s like a tiny adrenaline surge in my upper left abdomen - mine is caused by ectopic heartbeats. Feels horrible and scares me every single time. Had them for about 10+ years but much worse now I’m peri menopausal.

KatyMac · 06/03/2023 12:46

It's very new!

I've had a chest xray, a short ecg and a 24 hr monitor (waiting results for that one)

Very disconcerting

I have this. Its all day every day and its Menopause - for me anyway. It came from nowhere at 47 and I had anti-vertigo meds and all sorts. HRT has made some difference but I haven' got it properly sorted yet.

How old are you ?

KatyMac · 06/03/2023 12:57

I'm nearly 55 and have been taking hrt since 2019, this is new and is part of symptoms that have occurred post covid really - I have a persistent cough (since last Easter) and the palpitations came on in December and this new feeling in Feb

The GP says i can take the brown inhaler if i think it helps

It didn't help for the cough but I wonder if it will help this feeling

soundsofthesixties · 06/03/2023 13:55

The brown inhaler is a preventative. Have you got the blue one to help with the cough?

Titsywoo · 06/03/2023 14:05

Any chance you might have a hiatal hernia? That can cause some very odd sensations in the chest and upper abdomen.

Careful with ventolin. I am asthmatic and take far more of this than I should and it can create its own racing heart symptoms.

Wiccan · 06/03/2023 14:38

Yes I get this around twice a month and it is definitely menopause related . It can be quite a weird like an edgy nervous feeling and palpitations. I find yoga twice a day helps and deep breathing exercises . Try not to worry about it as this can make it worse .

Ohyoudodoyou · 06/03/2023 14:40

A friend of mine had this and it was Labyrinthitis.

KatyMac · 06/03/2023 14:55

The blue barely helped the cough, the brown was slightly better

I've had omeprazole which didn't help much
