Sleeping and croup

My 8mo old has been diagnosed with bronchiolitis and now croup. The croup has been particularly scary especially at night time. The past few nights we've been holding her upright, and we'll continue to do this if it's what's best but naturally we're exhausted and I'm worried we'll end up falling asleep whilst holding her. She also gets very sweaty when we do this so I'd rather her be in her cot where I know she won't get too warm.

We've been back and forth to the GP/hospital the past few days and they've all said to prop up her mattress to help her breathe easier. I'm just so worried to do this as it goes against everything I've been told about safe sleep. She's also a tummy sleeper so I'm unsure that doing this would be suitable for her anyway?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a sleeping position that could work for her? Now that she seems to be over the worst of the illnesses I'd like to get her back in her cot but I'm worried she'll have another episode if she does go back in and I've not put her in a suitable position!

Croup is horrible so I very much sympathise. My ds was older when he started getting it so we just used to co sleep, but something we used to do for general colds was to raise up the head end of the cot so they weren't lying flat, or sometimes tuck a pillow under the fitted sheet to raise their head, but they couldn't get stuck underneath it.

I had croup as a child. My mum used to put a vaporiser in the room. Not sure if that's still recommended though.

A humidifier in room will help greatly. My son suffered awfully with chest infections and croup in the colder months from being a baby. He regularly gets croup now in winter, he’s 6. He has asthma too and the steroid inhaler he has really helps him to manage it now fortunately when ill, lost count of the amount of evenings I sat in A&E with him not being able to breathe properly because of it.

Glad to read she’s over the worst x
