UTI or Virus plus lots of bed wetting.

Theres lots of things going on with dd at the minute behaviour wise and we think its down to the new baby but she's been wetting the bed every night for over 2 months now.

We took her to the doctors on friday and we have to provide a urine sample for monday to rule out a UTI but the other thing that bothers me is that dd has been coming out in red patches, particularly on her face.
This morning is quite bad. It looks a bit like a prickly heat rash.

Now to me a rash would indicate a virus but its been going on for a while now.

In a way I'm hoping that she does have a UTI as at least it will be treatable.
Constant washing of 2 duvets and 2 lots of sheets everyday is rather wearing.

How old is she nbg? Dd was dry at three, but regressed at the age of five for a year or so and had to have pull-ups at night gain. She had two UTIs that year as well as other fairly big things happen in her family life. I think it was a combination of all this which was the problem. Eventually it sorted itself out and she's fine now, although still has occasional infections, but no bedwetting.

There are normally other syptoms of a uti. Does she say it hurts when she wees? Does it smell? when she goes to the toilet for a wee is it cloudy or a different colour? Does she have tummy pain or a fever? It is possible to have a UTI and not have any symptoms so I would take her to the GP just incase.

I would get her out of bed and take her to the toliet before you go to bed. I know it's mean bit if she's wet her bed she'd have to get up anyway. Only children cn be very upset when there's a new baby. It's something that takes attention away from them. Have you sent her a card from the new baby to say thankyou for being my sister? Try and emphasise that you still love her, spend a bit of time with her when the baby is sleeping, snuggle up and read a book. Are you getting her to help you with the baby? Maybee asking her to get you a nappy or letting you help bath (she can wash)? It makes them feel involved and special. Good luck.

Thanks both

She's 4. Shes been dry since she was 2 and a half and dry at night for nearly a year.

We did have a bit of a wetting incident a while ago but after a week or so it sorted itself out.
Now its every night without fail.

Last night she was in bed for 7pm, I woke her for a wee at 9pm then at 11:45 she woke me up because she'd wet the bed.
Then when I went into her about 7am this morning, the bed was wet again.

We have been using pull ups again as we had a large packet that was laying about but shes used them all now and tbh I'm really loathed to spend more on nappies as we already ahve ds1 and 2 in them.
It would cost a fortune!

Is there such a thing as a resuableq

Boots used to sell pants that had a plastic layer in the middle of them. I don't know if they still do though. Does she wee alot during the day or having alot to drink?

Nbg · 10/02/2008 11:51

My computers gone all funny, hence the unfinished post.

Shes can drink alot but then not so much other days.
She has complained of tummy ache a few times over the last few months but shes had an issue with being sick and not eating too so we put it down to being hungry.
But she has said that her bums been sore but never hurts when she wees.

I'll have a look at Boots for a reuasable.

Hmmm. I'd probably take her to see the GP just in case. That way you can rule out any illness so you'll know whether it's because she's upset.

Nbg · 10/02/2008 12:06

Well like I said in the op, we took her on Friday and the gp put it down to the new baby and she has to provide a sample on monday to rule out uti.
