Hi
I'm very new to posting on here so please bear with me. My husband had his standard medication review about 4/5 days ago (requested by the pharmacist at the GP surgery) which included full bloods and urine tests. He’s been on Simvastatin and clopidogrel for about 8 years. I called in at the surgery this morning to check if his results were in and was told by the receptionist that the system showed that all results were in the normal range (and need no further action), apart from the liver one which will be repeated in about 3 months time. The pharmacist said she’ll discuss it with him in his pre booked telephone med review tomorrow. I asked if either the pharmacist (or a doctor)could ring us today as I felt a bit anxious about it but was told to wait until tomorrow. Does this sound like something to be concerned about or would they be lining up additional tests if they thought it was something serious rather than doing nothing for 3 months? I have been suffering badly with anxiety for a while now and this is not helping. By the way, he is feeling absolutely fine (not unwell and has no symptoms of anything) Thanks to anyone who is kind enough to reply

You are overreacting. The liver function test result can vary and if it only needs repeating in three months not seriously out of range. Dh had a raised lft after a weekend away, back to usual level on retest.

Dogsarebetterthanhumans · 27/02/2023 14:48

Absolutely don’t worry. When things are a little bit off they repeat them to check that it was most likely a blip and has gone back to normal. The fact that they are not repeating til 3 months tells you all you need to know. Xx

Thank you, so much for replying so quickly.

Could I ask how long was it between his first and the repeat test?

3 months

Gdp57 · 27/02/2023 15:56

Ah ok. Very similar then. Thank you x

Both my liver enzymes tested were slightly raised(41 and 44) apparently this is very common with statins and doctor said it's a problem if they get into the hundreds - (should be 35 and under) I suspect your guys are probably like mine as my doctor wasn't rushing to see me either

Gdp57 · 27/02/2023 17:37

Thank you so much. I just worry that it’s an indicator of something serious, but on the other hand, if the doctor/pharmacist were concerned they’d presumably do some more tests now rather than wait for 3 months?

Exactly , and it is really fir your dh to ask any questions.

Dogsarebetterthanhumans · 27/02/2023 18:19

OP honestly I really feel for you because I know what it’s like to worry; but you really really have no need here. Put Mumsnet away and enjoy your evening. Xx

Gdp57 · 27/02/2023 18:42

Yes, hoping to get some clarification tomorrow.
