How much does it actually hurt? The Dr said that apparently its mildly uncomfortable (but he's a man). Should i take pain killers before i go to have it fitted?
Thanks

I didn't as I was bf.
It was uncomfortable, but not as bad as I expected. A little worse than a smear, but not much. A bit crampy afterwards and a little bleeding, but all in all better than I was expecting

he is right IMO - just feels like heavy period pain for a few hours after. its fine, really. Take a towel with you as well

i had one 8 weeks post natal, it was mildly uncomfy, certainly didn;t need pain killers.....definitely take a pad for after, and expect to bleed for some weeks after ..

2 paracetamol would be a good idea

its more afterwards for a day or 2 - my dr gave me ponstan (a painkiller usually for very sore period pain) to take for the first few days - really really helped

I had mine 4 weeks post natal - it was absolutely fine but I think that's because I'd just had a big baby so it was and easy for them! I also went to family planning as they are dealing with them far more frequently than the gp IYSWIM

I took some ibuprofen beforehand. Like others say - a bit worse than a smear. I found the anaesthetic insertion the worst bit. It's not a pleasant experience, but it was ok. I'd say pretty uncomfortable, but only for a short time.
