PIP and Chronic pain

How have you found claiming PIP for a chronic pain condition? I am worried they might just say it is managed with pain relief.

However I also have things like nerve damage in my hand / numbness, and the effects of all the meds.

Is it managed with pain relief? That's a serious question. I have enhanced at both categories, and both chronic pain and neurological pain. I had no problems claiming. And I'll be honest - I was shocked I got it without any trouble. I know that isn't everyone's experience. But PIP is based on impact, not condition. So yes it is possible to claim. And be successful. I can't promise your case, because I don't know it.

Pip is about care needs.
I get high on both but require my partner to do a fair bit for me like helping me dress, helping me in and out of the bath (don't have a wet room), he has to cook etc.

You’d be right to be concerned. I can’t even open a packet of crisps or turn a door handle without screaming out. I wear compression gloves, wrist splints and have to wear compression stockings so I don’t faint when I stand up.

Seemingly, during my telephone interrogation, I didn’t ‘sound’ like I was in pain and I understood what my painkillers, and all my other medications, were for. The impact on my life is huge, I’m so restricted, I basically have an existence not a life but I’m not worthy of pip. I’m now more depressed than I was before I applied.

It is a bit managed, I have just started taking a new med which helps some. But it has quite bad side effects.

Glad to hear you got it OK.

PIPs based on how you are affected rather than the condition itself. If yours is managed by meds and you can do the things in the questions then you likely won’t get it. If you need care and help undertaking the tasks then you might. What is it you struggle with day to day?

I am very slow with everything due to the meds. I also have MH condition and am on antidepressants and antipsychotics as well as strong painkillers.

Can you work and claim PIP?
My Gp advised to apply for pip, I am
In constant pain and the pain affects my mental health. I have been like this for years. I work, and definetely do not want to give work up, even though I know working doesn't help my condition, I feel my mental health would suffer more if I didn't work.

I work 30 hours a week, could I still claim PIP, is the process straightforward, will I need all dr letters etc. i have been meaning to look into for ages

You could have a look at the site online called Benefits and Work. There are also some free guides from the CAB.

It's good your GP is helpful, maybe they can write a letter for you. Best of luck
