Please tell me the effects of teething on your LO

My DD is 8 months and has just cut her first 2 teeth together....there were no "signs" this was going to happen (no dribbling, not affecting her sleep), but now it has, she has had sickness and diarrhoea (but only lasting a day) and has a very minor rash on her abdomen. I can't work out what is due to teething and what isn't.

How did your LO react? What signs did they have - before and after cutting cutting through

TIA

With the first 8 or so my DS had very few signs. He was never really a dribbler and as usual put everything in his mouth but nothing I could put my finger on. Now he is cutting his back teeth at 19 months and these are more problematic. Lots of chewing, red cheek, pushing his hand against his cheek as if in pain, trouble sleeping, a little grizzly, gerally what you would imagine if you had toothache. I think though that children are quite different in how they react.

If she has had a rash along with the sickness and diarrhoea it's most likely a virus. Having said that ds almost always has one or two nasty nappies when his teeth come through. He also tends to go off his food for a day or so and wakes in the night with the pain. No rashes/sickness or anything like that.

Front teeth were not much of a problem, back teeth have just appeared. There were hot red cheeks, with a definite lump in there, disturbed nights, not eating as well as usual, squidgier nappies with some soreness and drool like a running tap. Also jamming any old thing in the back of her mouth.

My ds always had a raised temperature. Not supposed to happen, it just always did. Mentioned it to HV who said no, it's not supposed to happen but IHE it sometimes did anyway

thanks everyone - interesting about going off food - DD hardly ate anything yeterday. Her two teeth are also at quite a strange angle, so I hope they straighten up a bit as they come through...

dribble, bitter smelling soft poo and ds would n't eat other than fruit or savouries containing fennel for a while !
