I dont know how easy it is, or what paperwork is required, etc

Ive had no response at all from the insurance company yet, so if there are things I could be doing and sending to them in advance, that would be helpful,

thank you

Yes, from what I remember it was very straightforward as I fell squarely into one of the specified qualifying conditions in my policy (I had breast cancer which had spread into my lymph nodes, policy was with L&G). I think there was a form I had to download from their website, I completed it and got my consultant to sign off as well, then after I submitted it I got the payout within about 6-8 weeks. I was stunned as had expected pushback/questions/delays and there were none!

I used to assess CI claims. It's a pretty straightforward process. You will complete the forms and they will ask your Consultant for a report then assess whether you fulfil the policy criteria. Have you completed their forms and given consent? If so they will be waiting on medical reports

no, I dont think so. There was an online form, name, policy number, why are you making a claim? Is that it? I only answered in about 10 words, I think, ther was no questions about where I was being treated, or anything like that, although I did attach a scan of my permission slips I have signed for operations, and chemotherapy, so that will say the hospital name. I havent been asked for permission to approach them

When did you send it? Maybe a follow up call to ask for next steps, timescales etc?

Mine was very straight forward. I informed my Aviva. They contacted and confirmed diagnosis with my cancer nurse. Money was paid into my account.

Just to add no forms to complete. Very easy and straightforward.

My dh had a major heart attack a few years ago and I was surprised how quick and easy it was. We were with Royal London and I rang to inform them he had had the heart attack so they could update our policy, not even thinking it would be covered. They emailed us some forms to sign, no lengthy forms to fill in. They then contacted his doctor to confirm the diagnosis. I can't remember how long it took exactly, but think it was around 6 weeks from informing them until they paid us.

Sisisimone · 22/02/2023 07:48

Who is your insurer OP?

Sisisimone · 22/02/2023 07:50

I imagine if you filled something in online 2 weeks ago and haven't even received an acknowledgement then there's been some sort of admin error

Nimbostratus100 · 22/02/2023 07:50

Im with Aviva

@Nimbostratus100 it was all sorted really quickly. Probably within a month

We did one several weeks ago as my husband has Stage 4 cancer. We're with L&G. I called them and they securely emailed me some forms to fill in. I completed and returned them and then they took a few weeks contacting GP and specialists to verify the information. We've received the full payout, plus a little extra as apparently we could have claimed when he had his first cancer three years ago. we've been refunded all premiums paid since that date. I couldn't fault them for their customer service and efficiency in our case.
