Sedation or GA for Endoscopy for 16yo

What are the chances I can ask for a GA or a really heavy sedation for an endoscopy?

My daughter has recently had blood tests that shows she could be Coeliac. The GP has referred her to Paeds on an urgent basis. She explained the next steps are likely to be an endoscopy and biopsy. My daughter really doesn't want to be awake for this as she knows how unpleasant it is. I had one recently and although I had sedation, I was still aware of everything they were doing (but from far far away). Its this that is really freaking her out.

Basically, if your child has had an endoscopy, how did they do it?

TIA

General if it's offered. Definitely.
My DD had one at 11 and in our trust they do all children under general.

I was with my 5yo in recovery after surgery and a teen there had had endoscopy to diagnose ulcerative colitis. It sounded as though they had done the procedure under sedation, with GA as an option if needed.

MumofCrohnie Thank you so much. That will be a big relief to her. I just wasnt sure that although she is being seen by paeds, as she is 16, they may just expect her to put her big girl pants on and just give her a light sedation

Peeking Yes, that is what I am worried about. That they will want to sedate rather than GA. DD will not deal well with the thought of sedation
