Has Anyone Had a 24 Hour Blood Pressure Check?

Just wondering what to expect. I have let the surgery know that I am ok to go ahead. Is it uncomfortable? When you have your blood pressure checked, it can really hurt!

Yes I've it twice. One for 24 hours and one for 72 hours. You get used to it. It is uncomfortable for some of them

TheFallenMadonna · 20/02/2023 08:29

My daughter had a one a couple of weeks ago. She did find it pretty uncomfortable, and certainly didn't sleep well that night.

delfttulipvase · 20/02/2023 09:20

I had one for 24 hours last year.

It was uncomfortable for the minute or so it inflated every hour - it was designed to be very tight. I didn't sleep much as a result.

I also thought it was quite noisy (it beeped) when the machine inflated so not ideal if OH is a light sleeper.

The nurse who fitted mine did say if I had worn it for a decent period of time before taking it off, even if not 24 hours, they would still get a decent result.

ouch321 · 20/02/2023 09:50

Yes was fine. Had to do random stuff at intervals like go and climb a flight of stairs. I took the day off work because of the whole do a thing every 30 mins. Don't remember the experience being particularly bad though, just a tad random. I think I only took it off for a morning shower.

LIZS · 20/02/2023 09:51

It was annoying, especially when driving, but not painful.

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/02/2023 09:55

I did a 72 hour one (with readings taken every 30 mins) and it was a bit inconvenient at time (taking the monitor and tubing etc with me everywhere, including the gym) but hardly the end of the world. I woke up a few times but I'm a light/restless sleeper anyway.

It all seemed a bit OTT but actually turned out to be really useful as it had some surprising results that would never have been picked up in a more standard blood pressure check.

jusdepamplemousse · 20/02/2023 10:02

Drove me bananas - so cumbersome and uncomfortable. Definitely didn’t get accurate readings as it annoyed me so bloody much. Practice nurse said they’re an utterly pointless exercise.

doadeer · 20/02/2023 10:09

I don't think they are pointless. I did it as part of a heart MOT at Harley street clinic, but mine was 3 days and ecg for 7 days.

It did bruise my arm by the end though

goldenbag · 20/02/2023 22:45

I'm having one of these. How do the results display? Is it an average?

JennyTheDonkey · 20/02/2023 23:03

You don't get to see the results when it's on you, it stores them.
Found mine to be a PITA, heavy and clunky piece of kit, would love for someone to find a better way of measuring this - I know they're working on it.
Did have a bit of a sore arm after and didn't sleep well (went to the spare bed), would plan what you're going to wear and how you're going to deal with showering etc - can't remember anything specific that may help here sorry, it was a few years ago.

SquirrelSoShiny · 20/02/2023 23:10

I had one and slept like a log! One tip: make sure the cuff is tight enough during the day. My sore readings were when the cuff had loosened during the day and so it needed to inflate more to get a reading.

rach2713 · 20/02/2023 23:19

I had one a few years ago was a right pain and wrong time as it was the day of my husbands grans funneral so had to turn it off as it was loud when it went off and then i came home to let him spend time with family. Trying to put 4 kids to bed with one only 3 months old was a challenge as they were all crying i could feel my blood pressure getting high i ended up taken it off and given up. Results were high no shit sherlock 😂🙉

TheShellBeach · 20/02/2023 23:25

Mine was a nuisance during the day and I expected it to keep me awake during the night but I actually slept through it.
The results were normal so it was worth doing it, because my BPs at the surgery were always high.

Vegansausagevole · 20/02/2023 23:30

I volunteered to have one for 48 hours as part of a clinical trial measuring every 30 mins. It was okay I didn’t find it too painful, my sleep was a little disturbed but not overly so. I could take it off twice a day between the 30 mins measuring time so for a shower or couple time. I had to do all my normal stuff and 1 of the days had to be a work day and it wasn’t too obvious, just had to wear suitable top.

TherealmrsT · 20/02/2023 23:37

I had one last year.

Every 30 mins through the day and hourly overnight.
It was fine, not painful and not really even uncomfortable. Wasn't my best nights sleep but not too bad.

Got the average reading from the pharmacist a couple of days later.
