Headache every day for over 3 weeks?

I am so miserable, I have had a bad headache every day for over 3 weeks now.

I had the flu, and the headache came on as part of that but has continued despite being better from all the other symptoms.

What could it be? I'm considering coming off the mini pill in case it's that, and making an osteopath appointment ASAP but any other suggestions?

Sinusitis following your flu sounds likely.

melchim · 19/02/2023 13:40

How's your blood pressure?

XVII · 19/02/2023 13:46

Could have been covid not flu? Long term headaches can be a symptom of long covid

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/02/2023 13:51

Sounds like sinusitis,it's agony. Start steaming 3x a day with olbas oil and a steam mug and take anti inflammatories.

That's interesting about the sinusitis, I'm currently on the waiting list for sinus surgery as even pre- flu my whole nose doesn't work properly as the structure of my nose/sinuses is partially collapsed. So it could be related?

I did two COVID tests and both were negative so I dont think it was that.

Do you have a CO monitor? CO escaping into your house from boiler/fire etc can cause headaches

WeAreTheHeroes · 19/02/2023 14:14

Have you been taking pain killers? Over use, not overdosing, but using them a lot can cause headaches. Also the stress of pain causes a vicious cycle and pain raises your blood pressure. Can you do something to get out, have a walk somewhere relaxing as a distraction? Even try and have a nap.

Sounds like that's your answer then, sorry you have it,it's rotten .

Get your eyes tested, pay extra for an enhanced OCT test at specsavers.

Delectable · 19/02/2023 14:46

Have you had your blood pressure checked?

Richvanilla · 19/02/2023 15:32

Yes to CO monitor, and checked it was working last week.

I have been trying to avoid taking painkillers where possible but have been taking them a couple of times a week when it gets really bad?

Good shout on the eye test, will get that booked!

And no to blood pressure check, thankfully I have a nurse friend at work with his own blood pressure machine thingy so wil get him to check next time I'm at work!

All good suggestions above.

Would be worth booking a GP consultation now, you can cancel if it resolves. Some headaches need further investigation or treatment...

If it's sinusitis, mine spontaneously decompressed itself, the feeling of half a pint of bright orange gunge running down my chin after building up for two weeks was one of the most awesome things ever. Like my head being literally taken out of a vice. My work colleagues stood beside me at the time weren't so impressed...

Felicity42 · 19/02/2023 15:52

Have you a cough? As pneumonia can create headaches like that.

WeAreTheHeroes · 19/02/2023 18:09

Taking painkillers a couple of times in a week won't cause headaches.

I hope you can get sorted OP. It's horrible when there's no end to daily headaches and it really grinds you down.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/02/2023 18:17

I had this a few years ago. Headache would start early in the day and get worse, every day for 6 months. I had an mri scan in the end and it turned out I had an infected ulcer in my sinus. Strong antibiotics sorted it out within a week and I must have been affected by the infection because as soon as it went, I just felt so much better in myself. Dr said I could have had it for months.
