Palpitations/fast heart rate/weird symptoms

I was wondering if anyone has had the same experience or could shed light on what it is that's causing me too feel this way.

I had my little girl 8 months ago, whilst pregnant my Apple Watch kept alerting me to a high heart rate when sitting (120bpm) which coincided with the palpitations I'd been feeling. It got up to 188 walking up the stairs.

Since she's been born, I have a constant twitch in my eye and I've diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines.

The palpitations are still a regular occurrence and leave me exhausted. It actually makes me scared to be on my own with my DD in case I collapse. The migraines have subsided now I've been put on Nortiptyline.

I have paid private to see a cardiologist but the appointment isn't till next month. What on earth could be causing sudden palpitations and spike in bpm?

I don't drink alcohol/caffeinated drinks but it's definitely made worse by stress/tiredness. I just want them to go away!

My rapid heat beat is caused by hyperthyroidism. I take beta blockers and this has brought my bpm down to normal.
Have you any other symptoms? Weight loss, tremor, muscle weakness?
Ask your surgery for a blood test ASAP.

What's your blood pressure like?

Cassie9032 · 17/02/2023 20:55

If it was me I'd go to the doctors and ask for an ECG. I had one last Friday in A&E but it was just a bad panic attack. Was genuinely awful though otherwise I wouldn't of went.
I get heart palpitations because of PMDD(severe pms) as well. I don't panic over that because I know what it is. Is it constant or at random times? Hope you're ok x

@Itsasunshineyday I've had bloods done recently at the hospital which were all normal except vitamin D was low, I've been prescribed supplements for them. Although they did book an extra blood test to check my thyroid.

Definitely experiencing tremors though and sometimes when I lay down I feel like I'm vibrating.

@gotmychristmasmiracle BP is apparently textbook perfect!

@Cassie9032 I've had numerous ECG's :( they show a high heart rate but nothing else.

I have this. I had 24 hour ECG and a 24 hour blood pressure monitor. I take calcium blockers which now have it under control. I also watch my fluid intake. Lack of sleep, dehydration, poor diet makes it worse.

Vit D affects muscle. Heart is a muscle.
I had palpitations when vit D was low.
After prescription vit d course the palpitations stopped.

Itsasunshineyday · 17/02/2023 21:03

Vibrating? That's funny. I hope you get some answers soon. Good luck. x

Just about to say this, overactive thyroid.

deathnotquitewarmedup · 17/02/2023 21:19

@RainbowsLemonDrop I was also going to suggest thyroid. Pregnancy can cause thyroiditis which can present as overactive thyroid which then swings to under active thyroid. I had heart palpitations, anxiety, slow but steady weight loss, and vibrations at 8 months pp and it was my thyroid! They don't necessarily test for it though, worth checking if your hospital blood tests actually included TSH/T4. I hope you get to the bottom of it soon x

Bunnyfuller · 17/02/2023 21:20

Twitchy eye and fast heartbeat, thyroid is my guess. GL op

deathnotquitewarmedup · 17/02/2023 21:20

Sorry just reread and saw that they have ordered thyroid tests! Hopefully you will get them quickly- beta blockers made me feel loads better initially x

Crikeyalmighty · 17/02/2023 23:05

I've had the twitches and vibrations and every test going. The twitches and internal vibrations are also very common indeed with post covid ailments so it seems on the support forums as are chronic pins and needles

gotmychristmasmiracle · 18/02/2023 19:08

Ah when my little one was 9 months old I had different symptoms, very tired etc and ended up hypothyroid so now on 125mg of levothyroxine everyday. So defo get the thyroid checked Xx
