Migraine- scalp and face pain?

Candlesamdyoga · 16/02/2023 11:22

I've had migraines for years that have been controlled by having a coil and therefore disrupting my cycle which seeemed to cause them and also some cosmetic Botox which has also helped.
Think I might need more HRT / extra as they're coming back again and last night I got the nausea and then started with really sore scalp and ear and throat on one side. (Same side my migraines are on).
Anyone else have this? I'm away so am off to the pharmacy soon for Paramol. FFS. This sucks

Im so glad i found this as i get a sore throat when i get a mirgraine i have been told by a few doctors who just brush me of as they have never heard of it before. I thought u was going mad lol.

Mine is nearly always right sided and affects my scalp- even moving the hair from certain sore areas hurts
My right eye - particularly behind the eye and my eyebrow area.
My right sided teeth ache but that could be because I clench my teeth without realising.
Sometimes the right side of my head feels numb.
Occasionally I get nausea but not always.

Such a relief to read this. I had to retreat to bed yesterday and it's so horrible. Much better today but still a bit numb down the side of my face though hair and throat aren't hurting now. Migraine is horrible

Pharmacist nearly made me cry btw. We are away on holiday and so I didn't have my god drugs here- she was so sympathetic and kind that I nearly cried. I sort of whimpered at her and then felt sick and she was lovely

Scalp, teeth, throat - all definitely part of some migraine attacks in my experience. On the other hand, I've had a neurologist pooh pooh my assertions that they affect my upper right arm and shoulder these days. She can say what she likes, that little voice inside me knows there's a connection!

Hope you feel much better as the day goes on OP, and I'm glad you found a sympathetic pharmacist.

I get a range of symptoms. Pain down one side of my nose. Pain into upper teeth. Pain down the back of my neck & into my shoulder. Scalp sensitivity. It really does suck.

rach2713 · 17/02/2023 23:30

Its going to sound funny but i dont tell anyone now as a few have laughed but when im getting a Migraine my nose starts to run and once my attack had gone it goes away.

I hope yours is getting better its horrible when you dont have the medicine to help x

Lougle · 18/02/2023 08:06

I get a runny nose most mornings! How weird.

Candlesamdyoga · 18/02/2023 13:07

I'm much better now thanks though gutted to have had it while away. Missed out on afternoon tea ! Just a low level headache now so I'll be fine. Very interesting how it does affect others similarly.

I have to have a hot water bottle wrapped round my head to help my migraines these days

rach2713 · 18/02/2023 19:17

Its strange how different things work for different people. I have to have something cold on my head plus i also have to eat ice aswell.

What kinda medicine is everyone and has tried that hasnt worked x

I sometimes get relief if I tie a pair of tights around my head with the knot facing into my temple, then lie on it.

Over the years I've tried propranolol (hypotension), metoprolol (kept passing out randomly), gabapentin (no impact), topirimate (started to lose words), amitriptyline (vivid hallucinogenic dreams), nortriptyline (tachycardia), candesartan (no impact and slightly low BP), botox (painful injections but some relief) and a cefaly machine (only worked when switched on and didn't give any residual benefit, so can't walk around with a machine constantly on head).

Now I take ivabridine and fludrocortisone for inappropriate sinus tachycardia with vasovagal syncope, melatonin to ensure I sleep at night (migraine trigger), the mini pill (regulates hormones), and Ajovy injections monthly for migraine prevention. A combo of Zolmitriptan, Naproxen and Prochlorperazine when they come.

rach2713 · 18/02/2023 20:48

I have tried propranolol made me spaced out like i was drunk had to get me mum to look after my kids. gabapentin had no effect on me. Same with the amitriptyline. I am ment to take candesartan for high blood pressure but i stopped taken them but new doctors think im on them for mirgraines when im not. I was on sumatripan for awhile but got use them so had to swap to another one cant remember the name but never put it away so im on Zolmitriptan, metoclopramide for the sickness and nortriptyline also been told i can take 800mg of ibuprofen aswell and if it gets really bad i can take 900mg of asprin. I feel like a bloody chemist with all the tablets ive had 🙈

Starrr123 · 15/03/2023 21:52

@Lougle hi!
i have very fast heart rate, all started from covid! The dr is thinking about putting me on bisoprolol but he said i cant try for a baby? So i was going to ask for metoprolol? How come in made u pass out? X

Lougle · 16/03/2023 05:17

I wouldn't worry. I think mine was a combination of existing low BP and an interaction with another medication. Quite unusual.

Starrr123 · 16/03/2023 09:37

@Lougle ok thankyou for ur reply. I take amitriptyline atm also, so hoping rhat wouldnt clash? X
