MIR scan fear

A couple of weeks ago I had a weird experience with my eyesight, I was seeing double.
Went to eye department, lots of tests, they were a bit baffled but put a prism on left lens of glasses and it went away.
(I suspect it was stress induced due to losing my dog a week earlier)
Now I've received an appointment for a head MIR scan. This after the second doc I saw said a scan was overkill and I wouldn't be offered one.
The appointment letter says I will need a head scan with contrast which involves an injection of dye.
I'm very anxious because I have a fear of reactions to medication, a fear that stops me taking anything new.
I guess what I'm asking is has anyone had this type of scan, and what the experience was like..Thanks

I have had the contrast dye injection for a CT but not for an MRI, although I have had a MRI on its own.
The dye part was totally fine, the only effect I felt at all was feeling very briefly like I had wet myself- I hadn't its just a sensation of the dye and it lasted maybe 2 seconds, the nurse said it was very normal for people to get a brief 'warm crotch' sensation. Apart from that absolutley nothing and I normally react to everything too.

Actual MRI, also fine its just noisy but you can normally wear earplugs and its okay, just a bit boring if they have to take lots of angles. They give you a pillow for your knees and its quite comfy.

Thanks Leafblow, that's reassuring to hear. I'm just not sure I even need a MIR scan, seems strange after the doc said I wouldn't get one! Probably just in the system after the first consultation.

Hello, I had an MRI scan a few days ago. Mine was for my pelvis, but I imagine it's very similar. I had to have 2 injections - contrast dye and a muscle relaxant (I think they only give muscle relaxant for pelvic MRI to keep the bowel still)

I did actually have a reaction to the muscle relaxant, it made my heart race. However the radiologists looking after me were so, so kind. They took me out of the scanner, gave me a drink, monitored me until it calmed down. It only lasted about 5 mins, and then I went back in. The contrast dye didn't give me any reaction at all. I believe it's quite rare to have a reaction to the dye.

Remember that there are people there to monitor you at all times. You have a call bell in your hand you can ring, and they will come help you immediately. The actual scan is ok, it's a bit noisy but they give you headphones with music. You just have to try and stay really still. The radiologists can see and hear you at all times and you can talk to them through a microphone.

It will be okay! You can do it.

I had the double vision thing and it was taken very seriously as its an indicator there is an issue with one of your cranial nerves.
I think it was stress induced for me too but they have to be thorough just in case.
