NHS Orthodontics - aftercare?

Adult Ds had orthodontic treatment at a NHS hospital and was discharged 4/5 years ago. His fixed retainers and mould now need attention but he is finding it difficult to get follow up care to maintain or replace them. Our dentist does not provide orthodontic care. Private practices either have long waiting lists and/or £££ or do cosmetic treatments like Invisalign only. Any suggestions please, London or SE London/Surrey area. Have looked into dental hospitals but looks like you need a referral.

Could you dentist refer you to the right place, or steer you in right direction?

She came up with two, one seems to have closed the other has a long list.

Orthodontics under the NHS is normally free of charge and the first retainers are supplied. Any replacement retainers are normally a private charge. He should have removeable retainers that will have been provided as a back up. Fixed retainers can be provided by dentists or orthodontists. The Dental Hospitals won't offer follow up care. Practices loisted as offering aligners such as Invisalign would be most likely to be able to be able to treat him and they should be able to give an idea of cost. If he can't afford to replace the fixed retainers removeable are very effective as long as they are worn regulalry.

@MillyMollyMardy thank you. He actually has both but it is the fixed where a bracket, or possibly two has loosened so the wire is not tight, and the removable is rather manky if functional. I may have found somewhere offering a free consultation whereas some charge £100 to walk in the door and don't publish a treatment price guide.
