My period is over a week late and I am definitely not pregnant

I usually have a 28 or 29 day cycle. A few years ago the cycle was different and I hand some longer cycle days. It was anything from 28 to 35 days. It was all stress related that was intense and prolonged. Once the stress eased off, the cycle went into the normal 28 or 29 day cycle. Its been 28/29 days for the past 2 or 3 years now.

My period was 6 days early last month in January. I was expecting it for about the 12 of January but it came on the 6th of January. So that was the first day of my cycle. I took that as my first day of the cycle and I was due my period last taking 28/29 days. But it never came. I am now on day number 37 and this is very unusual for me. I am jot even spotting on toilet tissue yet. I usually stain toilet tissue before the period starts. There's no sign of the period.

I am 40 so it's probably perimenopause.
I fell into a bad habit since Christmas time. I am becoming addicted to Netflix and I am staying up late most nights. Even week nights and weekends are a different story. I am going to bed at 4 or 5 or 6 am in the morning. Week nights and it could be any time of the night from about 1 to 3 am. I wonder if my body is taking the tiredness as stress or something and I didn't ovulate this cycle?

When can I establish when my period or the next period will come. Should I start behaving and going to bed on time?

I am definitely not pregnant because my relationship is sexless.

I’m certain it’s linked to your change in sleep habits. Your body will absolutely be experiencing this as some sort of stress. It’s not going to kill you to continue your new sleep pattern but it isn’t particularly healthy… if I were you, I would definitely target 8 hours sleep a night and get to bed earlier. After a month or so of consistency I bet you find things return to some level of normal with your cycle xx

I would also put it down to being at least in part, due to your age. My cycle starting going haywire around that age which attributed to being caused by fibroids. But i've since had those treated and it's now even worse. I was averaging around 24 days in the last year but some of those were as short as 18 and last month I hit 40 days!! It's literally become a guessing game.

God, that sounds like an absolute nightmare of a situation. How can anyone live like that? You would have to carry pads or tampons with you everywhere and every day in case a period shows up.

What isn't there more awareness and talk about menopause. The only awareness happens from online forums really.

Yep I do! I should get sponsorship by tampax, they’re in every bag, work locker, darent go away for the weekend without anything……
I agree, education on the subject is woefully inadequate!

Today is day number 40 since my last period. This is completely unusual for me. I wasn't particularly bold with late nights in January. I can only presume that this period will be missed completely and might get a period maybe in early March as if I already had a period in February. I don't know.

Can periods just stop like that or do they become erratic before menopause or what is the situation.

It was a week early in January and now nothing. Its so unusual.

It’s perimenopause (can start 10 years before menopause). And definitely lots of people start getting erratic or occasional missed periods during that time.

But keeping funny hours will also mess with your periods - there’s some interaction between melatonin (sleep hormone) and oestrogen I think? I remember one of my first very long cycles during peri was when I was in the US on holiday and taking melatonin supplements to get my sleep in sync. But period was massively affected by it.

you can always go to GP and ask for blood test to see what your hormone levels are like; it will give you a ‘baseline’ for years to come.

I used to be as regular as clockwork. I could almost predict them to the hour! However, over the last couple of years, I’ve had a few big gaps. Out of the blue, I suddenly had a 10 week gap. I did a couple of pregnancy tests despite dh having had the snip 10 years ago but I wasn’t pregnant. I was practically throwing a party as I thought my time of horrible periods was finally over! Unfortunately my cycles returned to being bang on time for a whole year until last cycle when I had an 8 week gap followed by the worst period I have ever had. I was scared to leave the bathroom, let alone the house. Let’s see what next month brings! It’s very disconcerting going from periods you could set your watch by to not knowing what’s going to happen Sad

Hi! I have this exact situation but I’m 31 so hopefully not menopause…

I saw my GP today and she was lovely and didn’t make me feel like I was overreacting. I’m having blood tests on Monday so maybe push for that?

My cycle started to be a bit haywire from around 40, previously very regular. I'm 44 now it my period can come anything every 3 to 6 weeks. I asked my gp and she said it was pretty normal for it to be a all over the place in your 40s
