My aunt 73 has C O P D she’s coming over to stay a few days
will my putting a damp towel or water bowl on the lounge or bedroom radiators help her?
or any other tips please I’m worried I will make her worse, and she’s not one to complain or say anything
appreciate any advice please

Probably not (and it’ll encourage damp/mildew). Why not ask her what helps/makes things worse?

Thanks for reply, I did ask her she said nothing it’s fine, but my sister said her cough got worse when she stayed there
its only for around 4 days, so wouldn’t be a mould problem
just I wondered if adding the water moisture would help her breathing
If it’s still this cold next week we have to keep heating on low all night too
thank you ..

Keeping the house warm is essential for COPD sufferers.

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/02/2023 15:42

She'll need a daytime temp of 21° and 18° overnight.
Not sure about adding moisture to the air - never seen it duggested by British Asthma & Lung or similar.

Ideally humidity should be 40% or under.

It depends on the person. Some prefer warm air, others cold. Personally I cannot breathe when the cental heating is on, or even in a warm car. Just ask her.

NoPrivateSpy · 09/02/2023 23:06

My dad always needed air flow to help him breathe so used to sleep with the window open?

Cleanthatup · 10/02/2023 00:03

Air flow- windows open but keep the person warm.

No perfumes, hairsprays, room sent, plug-ins etc no open fires/wood burners & most definitely no smoking.

it’s lovely of you to be so considerate towards your aunt, this is an awful disease to live with.

Also, no candles. They really exacerbate symptoms.
