Hi...me again.

My DD has had some strange things lately.

Tonight she had disgharge and blood in her knickers.

Thinking back she has had brown discharge over the last few days...i haven't done anything as been so preoccupied with her rash.

She has not cut herself and it's not smelly. Just a discharge sort of smell.

It's exactly what you'd expect from a period.

She has explained how she feels and says she is aware when stuff is coming from her "noony" she then goes toilet and the discharge is there.

Will take her to docs as soon as I find one tomorrow but has anyone heard of menstral cycles in children this young?

My sister had this happen at a similar age.I was too young to know what went on,but she was seen by the Dr,it stopped & she went on to develop perfectly normally.

Sorry I can't be more help.

could it be precocious puberty?

Twiglett · 07/02/2008 20:00

precocious puberty is possible but you are right to aim to see the GP

this might be helpful

Was the rash like small spots? Could be an auto immune condition fairly common in children called Henoch Schonlein Pupura. It causes vasculitis and you can get blood in urine etc,so possibly from vagina as well.
I am a paediatric nurse and have seen a fair few cases over the years.I t usually resolves itself I think as far as I can remember, but we used to monitor urine and blood pressure.
Would take her to your gp for their opinion.
HTH!

Hi my dd has precousious puberty (this is puberty in children under the age of 8), not reached the period stage just yet but on our way, being monitored by the childrens hospital, but she has been diagnosed which has taken one year, after all the tests etc.

Please, dont be alarmed but, this may well be this also, these sound like the symptoms to watch for, discharge, bleeding, pubic hair, mood swings, breasts enlarged, (small buds), acne. Although bleeding and discharge are obviously the main. The biggest problem with precousious puberty, is growth, once puberty starts the bones start to fuse, so the child never reaches full mature height, also weight is a problem.

Now this may well be nothing of the sort in this case, but my advice to you is to speak with your GP asap, and request they refer you to an endocromologist. This is to do with hormones concerning puberty. Do not take no for an answer if this is prec puberty and it is left to late, there may be growth issues later on. I have had to push for every test and appointment, so dont be afraid to stand your ground. Treatment for this is hormone blockers basically, they just inject every 8 weeks, with a synthetic agent to block the flow of hormones, much better than periods for the children and the growth problem (noone likes to be short, I should know) You should be seen quickly because it seems it is quite advanced.

Please its better to be sure, it could be other things, not related to prec puberty, but the risk is there I,m sure you would feel reassured to know. I'll keep an eye on your thread see how you get on. Good luck, colacubes x
