Infected Sebaceous Cyst

Hi all!

Sorry if too much information.

Basically I have a massive infected sebaceous cyst on my neck. (Ignore my spelling mistakes) Went to GP few weeks ago well phone app and sent a picture, the duty GP was concerned it was a thrybroglossol cyst, prescribed floxocylyn advising if it’s still inflamed after 4 days to either go back to GP or go to the a and e 40 miles away. Considering that an and e has a minimum wait of 11 hours, I have three children one of which is 8.5 months, a partner who is doing university from home with deadlines this week and next along with returning to work tomorrow, 11 hours in a and e isn’t really an option when it’s not an emergency.
Hadn't cleared up after 4 days, back to GP who states it’s a sebaceous cyst which needs popping. She proceeded (rather excitedly) to pop it with a needle and tried to squeeze without much coming out. Prescribed stronger antibiotics co something, advising to try and get as much of the infection out by squeezing it and to proceed to an and e if it doesn’t go down.
It had started to go down and the inflammation had gotten a bit better (I wasn’t able to squeeze much out as it was so sore from her squeezing and the position of it is too close to my jaw and my throat to get a good grip). Tonight it popped again oozing pus and is extremely sore and inflamed again!
Do I phone GP again tomorrow and try to get them to refer to outpatients? Do I go to work with a massive painful cyst on my neck? I don’t feel rough from it anymore but it’s really prominent and I feel extremely self conscious with it. Do I go to an and e and waste 11+ hours of my life and their lives for something that isn’t an emergency?!
Just want some advice please. Will attach picture for added effect.

Don't go to a&e unless you've got a fever with it.

Book an appointment with a dermatologist who can hit it with a cortisone shot.

If you’re okay in yourself with to temperature or other feelings of being unwell I would call the GP first thing.

ultimately it does need intervention otherwise it will come back. Sebaceous cysts have a ‘sac’ inside and that sac will refill. However the infection really needs to be under control first. My DH had his removed by the GP at a ‘minors’ clinic but only after the infection had gone.

As well as the GP you can get magnesium sulphate paste from the chemist - this will help ‘draw’ the nasty stuff inside out.

@Mykittensmittens both GP’s also said due to the nature of where it is the surgery itself won’t remove it but the hospital will, I guess they’ve got everything at hand encase of emergency when removing it. When I get paid I’ll get some of that magnesium sulphate stuff and try it.
@YukoandHiro consulting a private dermatologist isn’t an option financially for us at the moment unfortunately.
I’m not a vain person and have lived with the cyst when it was tic tax sized for nearly a year, it’s not the size of a Lindt chocolate and randomly oozing which is making me self conscious.

I hope that clears up for you soon

Now the terrible part where I admit I want to see it burst. 😬🌺

I had one like this but bigger on the back of my neck. I needed it removing in hospital in the end and stayed in overnight. It was painful afterwards as they had to go deep and put in a drain - yours doesn’t look so big, but I would have thought a hospital operation. Hope you can get it seem to soon.

Watch out for fever or for the infection tracking. I had one that did this and ended up having emergency surgery to remove it. As PP said, they go deep so it took a while to heal and I still have a dent where it was. Hope yours is more straightforward!
