Eczema - what to do?

Hello, my 18month old dd has just developed what i think is teething related eczema. She's only had it in the last 2 months, but its made her entire body flare up in red rashes every day. The doctor reckons is eczema and we've got epaderm, aqueous, and hydrocortisone and oilatum for her. Her skin is rough and raised all over. Some days it seems to get better and then it moves to her front, or her back, or her arms.

She's happy in herself, except after a midday nap when she wakes up very bothered by it. Apparently i suffered from the same thing as a baby and grew out of it once my teeth arrived. But its really upsetting me to hear how uncomfortable she is (she's at nursery and i'm at my desk worrying). Its been ongoing for about 2 months now... not sure what to do....

Hi moodlessoup, my ds has had eczema since he was a few months old. I find it flares up when he gets too hot. You can help by keeping your dd's finger nails short, bathing her in warm water rather then hot, dressing her in natural breatherable clothing i.e cotton rather then polyester, washing clothes in non-bio powder and maybe putting cycle on extra rinse.

I've been told that the hydrocortisone cream is a steriod and apparently it thins the skin if used heavily over a long time. I find it best to use the cream when the flare ups start rather then wait until its really bad.

Both my ds's have eczema as do I. I find it really flares up in the winter months. One thing that can be helpful is not bathing every day. May every other day. Also our doctor recommended that we keep the bath water as cool possible as warm or hot water can dry the skin out faster.
