Is this a cold sore, or what? (apologies if TMI)

I've got an itchy, sore red patch at the bottom of my nose, just inside one nostril. I had one in the same place a few weeks ago, it drove me nuts for ages, crusted over & bled. I smothered it with germolene & it subsided eventually, but now it's back.

It's only just dawned on me that this might be a coldsore - what do you think? I've never had one before, and always thought they were round the mouth.

Advice on how to get rid, please!

Could be a coldsore, you can get them anywhere on your face actually and defo inside your nose. You ought to go to the dp's tbh, if it bled etc, because it may have been infected and it could easily turn into impetigo. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

GP's obviously, unless your dp is a gp!

I get them all over my chin.

As for getting rid of them, different things work for different people. So I would just experiment with all of the brands until you find one that works for you. I find the compeed patches work best.

zovirax ......thats all i can suggest asap

Thanks peeps. No, dp isn't a gp, & I'm one of those people who goes to doc when at death's door, & when he asks how you are, says "Very well, thanks"! So don't want to go unless unavoidable. Shall now go off & look up 'impetigo' (Had no idea red patch had something to do with heights...)

Not nice, is it!

Ds has it at the moment. Thought it was cracked lips, then maybe a cold sore, but it's been a right pain!

Make sure your gp gives you the right antibiotics if you do go - Fluclosacillin seemed to work more than anything else.

Thanks all. Just had an embarrassing, but worthwhile, chat with the lady in Tesco pharmacy. She recommended their cream, same as Zovirax but half the price.

Cold sores, eh? A new experience to add to the list!
